Philemon 1:5-11
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 1
5because I hear of your love and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints; 6and I pray that the fellowship of your faith may become effective through the knowledge of every good thing which is in you for the sake of Christ. 7For I have had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.King James Version
Chapter 1
5Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; 6That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. 7For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother. 8Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient, 9Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ. 10I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: 11Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 1
5because I hear of your love for all the saints and the faith that you have in the Lord Jesus. 6I pray that your participation in the faith may become effective through knowing every good thing that is in us for the glory of Christ. 7For I have great joy and encouragement from your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.
8For this reason, although I have great boldness in Christ to command you to do what is right,
9I appeal to you, instead, on the basis of love. I, Paul, as an elderly man and now also as a prisoner of Christ Jesus,
10appeal to you for my son, Onesimus. I became his father while I was in chains.
11Once he was useless to you, but now he is useful both to you and to me.
New Living Translation
Chapter 1
5because I keep hearing about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God’s people. 6And I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes from your faith as you understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ. 7Your love has given me much joy and comfort, my brother, for your kindness has often refreshed the hearts of God’s people.English Standard Version
Chapter 1
5because I hear of your love and of the faith that you have toward the Lord Jesus and for all the saints, 6and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ. 7For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you.
8Accordingly, though I am bold enough in Christ to command you to do what is required,
9yet for love’s sake I prefer to appeal to you—I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner also for Christ Jesus—
10I appeal to you for my child, Onesimus, whose father I became in my imprisonment.
11(Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.)
New International Version
Chapter 1
5because I hear about your love for all his holy people and your faith in the Lord Jesus. 6I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ. 7Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord's people.
8Therefore, although in Christ I could be bold and order you to do what you ought to do,
9yet I prefer to appeal to you on the basis of love. It is as none other than Paul--an old man and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus--
10that I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, who became my son while I was in chains.
11Formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful both to you and to me.
New King James Version
Chapter 1
5hearing of your love and faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints, 6that the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. 7For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed by you, brother.
8Therefore, though I might be very bold in Christ to command you what is fitting,
9yet for love’s sake I rather appeal to you—being such a one as Paul, the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ—
10I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten while in my chains,
11who once was unprofitable to you, but now is profitable to you and to me.
