Numbers 27:1-7
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 27
1
Then the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph, came forward; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
2
They stood before Moses, before Eleazar the priest, before the leaders, and all the congregation at the entrance of the tent of meeting, saying,
3
Our father died in the wilderness, yet he was not among the group of those who gathered together against the
Lord
, in the group of Korah; but he died in his own sin, and he had no sons.
4
Why should the name of our father be withdrawn from among his family
simply
because he had no son? Give us property among our father’s brothers.'
5
So Moses brought their case before the
Lord
.
6
Then the
Lord
said to Moses,
7
The daughters of Zelophehad are right
about their
statements. You shall certainly give them hereditary property among their father’s brothers, and you shall transfer the inheritance of their father to them.
King James Version
Chapter 27
1
Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph: and these are the names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.
2
And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying,
3
Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the
Lord
in the company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons.
4
Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father.
5
And Moses brought their cause before the
Lord
.
6
And the
Lord
spake unto Moses, saying,
7
The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 27
1
The daughters of Zelophehad approached; Zelophehad was the son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh from the clans of Manasseh, the son of Joseph. These were the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
2
They stood before Moses, the priest Eleazar, the leaders, and the entire community at the entrance to the tent of meeting and said,
3
"Our father died in the wilderness, but he was not among Korah’s followers, who gathered together against the
Lord
. Instead, he died because of his own sin, and he had no sons.
4
Why should the name of our father be taken away from his clan? Since he had no son, give us property among our father’s brothers."
5
Moses brought their case before the
Lord
,
6
and the
Lord
answered him,
7
"What Zelophehad’s daughters say is correct. You are to give them hereditary property among their father’s brothers and transfer their father’s inheritance to them.
New Living Translation
Chapter 27
1
One day a petition was presented by the daughters of Zelophehad — Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. Their father, Zelophehad, was a descendant of Hepher son of Gilead, son of Makir, son of Manasseh, son of Joseph.
2
These women stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the tribal leaders, and the entire community at the entrance of the Tabernacle.
3
Our father died in the wilderness,' they said. 'He was not among Korah’s followers, who rebelled against the
Lord
; he died because of his own sin. But he had no sons.
4
Why should the name of our father disappear from his clan just because he had no sons? Give us property along with the rest of our relatives.'
5
So Moses brought their case before the
Lord
.
6
And the
Lord
replied to Moses,
7
The claim of the daughters of Zelophehad is legitimate. You must give them a grant of land along with their father’s relatives. Assign them the property that would have been given to their father.
English Standard Version
