Numbers 19:17-20
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 19
17
Then for the unclean
person
they shall take some of the ashes of the burnt purification from sin and running water shall be added to them in a container.
18
And a clean person shall take hyssop and dip
it
in the water, and sprinkle
it
on the tent, on all the furnishings, on the persons who were there, and on the one who touched the bone or the one who was killed or the one who died
naturally,
or the grave.
19
Then the clean
person
shall sprinkle on the unclean on the third day and on the seventh day; and on the seventh day he shall purify him, and he shall wash his clothes and bathe
himself
in water and will be clean by evening.
20
‘But the person who is unclean and does not purify himself, that person shall be cut off from the midst of the assembly, because he has defiled the sanctuary of the
Lord
; the water for impurity has not been sprinkled on him,
so
he is unclean.
King James Version
Chapter 19
17
And for an unclean person they shall take of the ashes of the burnt heifer of purification for sin, and running water shall be put thereto in a vessel:
18
And a clean person shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all the vessels, and upon the persons that were there, and upon him that touched a bone, or one slain, or one dead, or a grave:
19
And the clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day: and on the seventh day he shall purify himself, and wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at even.
20
But the man that shall be unclean, and shall not purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from among the congregation, because he hath defiled the sanctuary of the
Lord
: the water of separation hath not been sprinkled upon him; he is unclean.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 19
17
For the purification of the unclean person, they are to take some of the ashes of the burnt sin offering, put them in a jar, and add fresh water to them.
18
A person who is clean is to take hyssop, dip it in the water, and sprinkle the tent, all the furnishings, and the people who were there. He is also to sprinkle the one who touched a bone, a grave, a corpse, or a person who had been killed.
19
"The one who is clean is to sprinkle the unclean person on the third day and the seventh day. After he purifies the unclean person on the seventh day, the one being purified must wash his clothes and bathe in water, and he will be clean by evening.
20
But a person who is unclean and does not purify himself, that person will be cut off from the assembly because he has defiled the sanctuary of the
Lord
. The water for impurity has not been sprinkled on him; he is unclean.
New Living Translation
Chapter 19
17
To remove the defilement, put some of the ashes from the burnt purification offering in a jar, and pour fresh water over them.
18
Then someone who is ceremonially clean must take a hyssop branch and dip it into the water. That person must sprinkle the water on the tent, on all the furnishings in the tent, and on the people who were in the tent; also on the person who touched a human bone, or touched someone who was killed or who died naturally, or touched a grave.
19
On the third and seventh days the person who is ceremonially clean must sprinkle the water on those who are defiled. Then on the seventh day the people being cleansed must wash their clothes and bathe themselves, and that evening they will be cleansed of their defilement.
20
But those who become defiled and do not purify themselves will be cut off from the community, for they have defiled the sanctuary of the
Lord
. Since the water of purification has not been sprinkled on them, they remain defiled.
English Standard Version
Chapter 19
17
For the unclean they shall take some ashes of the burnt sin offering, and fresh water shall be added in a vessel.
18
Then a clean person shall take hyssop and dip it in the water and sprinkle it on the tent and on all the furnishings and on the persons who were there and on whoever touched the bone, or the slain or the dead or the grave.
19
And the clean person shall sprinkle it on the unclean on the third day and on the seventh day. Thus on the seventh day he shall cleanse him, and he shall wash his clothes and bathe himself in water, and at evening he shall be clean.
20
"If the man who is unclean does not cleanse himself, that person shall be cut off from the midst of the assembly, since he has defiled the sanctuary of the
Lord
. Because the water for impurity has not been thrown on him, he is unclean.
New International Version
Chapter 19
17
"For the unclean person, put some ashes from the burned purification offering into a jar and pour fresh water over them.
18
Then a man who is ceremonially clean is to take some hyssop, dip it in the water and sprinkle the tent and all the furnishings and the people who were there. He must also sprinkle anyone who has touched a human bone or a grave or anyone who has been killed or anyone who has died a natural death.
19
The man who is clean is to sprinkle those who are unclean on the third and seventh days, and on the seventh day he is to purify them. Those who are being cleansed must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and that evening they will be clean.
20
But if those who are unclean do not purify themselves, they must be cut off from the community, because they have defiled the sanctuary of the
Lord
. The water of cleansing has not been sprinkled on them, and they are unclean.
