Numbers 17:7-13
New American Standard Bible
8Now on the next day Moses went into the tent of the testimony; and behold, Aaron’s staff for the house of Levi had sprouted and produced buds and bloomed with blossoms, and it yielded ripe almonds.
9Moses then brought out all the staffs from the presence of the Lord to all the sons of Israel; and they looked, and each man took his staff.
10But the Lord said to Moses, 'Put the staff of Aaron back in front of the testimony to be kept as a sign against the rebels, so that you may put an end to their grumblings against Me and they do not die.'
11Moses did so; just as the Lord had commanded him, so he did.
King James Version
8And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.
9And Moses brought out all the rods from before the LORD unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod.
10And the LORD said unto Moses, Bring Aaron's rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not.
11And Moses did so: as the LORD commanded him, so did he.
12And the children of Israel spake unto Moses, saying, Behold, we die, we perish, we all perish.
13Whosoever cometh any thing near unto the tabernacle of the LORD shall die: shall we be consumed with dying?
Christian Standard Bible
8The next day Moses entered the tent of the testimony and saw that Aaron's staff, representing the house of Levi, had sprouted, formed buds, blossomed, and produced almonds!
9Moses then brought out all the staffs from the Lord's presence to all the Israelites. They saw them, and each man took his own staff.
10The Lord told Moses, "Put Aaron's staff back in front of the testimony to be kept as a sign for the rebels, so that you may put an end to their complaints before me, or else they will die."
11So Moses did as the Lord commanded him.
New Living Translation
Chapter 17
7Moses placed the staffs in the Lord’s presence in the Tabernacle of the Covenant. 8When he went into the Tabernacle of the Covenant the next day, he found that Aaron’s staff, representing the tribe of Levi, had sprouted, budded, blossomed, and produced ripe almonds!
9When Moses brought all the staffs out from the Lord’s presence, he showed them to the people. Each man claimed his own staff.
10And the Lord said to Moses: 'Place Aaron’s staff permanently before the Ark of the Covenant to serve as a warning to rebels. This should put an end to their complaints against me and prevent any further deaths.'
11So Moses did as the Lord commanded him.
