Numbers 14:36-40
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 14
36
As for the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, and who returned and led all the congregation to grumble against him by bringing a bad report about the land,
37
those men who brought the bad report of the land also died by a plague in the presence of the
Lord
.
38
But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh remained alive out of those men who went to spy out the land.
39
Now when Moses spoke these words to all the sons of Israel, the people mourned greatly.
40
In the morning, however, they got up early and went up to the ridge of the hill country, saying, 'Here we are; and we will go up to the place which the
Lord
has promised, for we have sinned.'
King James Version
Chapter 14
36
And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,
37
Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the
Lord
.
38
But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.
39
And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.
40
And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the
Lord
hath promised: for we have sinned.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 14
36
So the men Moses sent to scout out the land, and who returned and incited the entire community to complain about him by spreading a negative report about the land—
37
those men who spread the negative report about the land were struck down by the
Lord
.
38
Only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh remained alive of those men who went to scout out the land.
39
When Moses reported these words to all the Israelites, the people were overcome with grief.
40
They got up early the next morning and went up the ridge of the hill country, saying, "Let’s go to the place the
Lord
promised, for we were wrong."
New Living Translation
Chapter 14
36
The ten men Moses had sent to explore the land — the ones who incited rebellion against the
Lord
with their bad report —
37
were struck dead with a plague before the
Lord
.
38
Of the twelve who had explored the land, only Joshua and Caleb remained alive.
39
When Moses reported the
Lord
’s words to all the Israelites, the people were filled with grief.
40
Then they got up early the next morning and went to the top of the range of hills. 'Let’s go,' they said. 'We realize that we have sinned, but now we are ready to enter the land the
Lord
has promised us.'
English Standard Version

38
Of those men who went to spy out the land, only Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh remained alive.
39
When Moses told these words to all the people of Israel, the people mourned greatly.
40
And they rose early in the morning and went up to the heights of the hill country, saying, "Here we are. We will go up to the place that the
Lord
has promised, for we have sinned."
New International Version
Chapter 14
36
So the men Moses had sent to explore the land, who returned and made the whole community grumble against him by spreading a bad report about it—

Lord

38
Of the men who went to explore the land, only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh survived.

Early the next morning they set out for the highest point in the hill country, saying, "Now we are ready to go up to the land the
Lord
promised. Surely we have sinned!"
New King James Version
