Numbers 13:30-33
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 13
30
Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, 'We should by all means go up and take possession of it, for we will certainly prevail over it.'
31
But the men who had gone up with him said, 'We are not able to go up against the people, because they are too strong for us.'
32
So they brought a bad report of the land which they had spied out to the sons of Israel, saying, 'The land through which we have gone to spy out is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are people of
great
stature.
33
We also saw the Nephilim there (the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.'
King James Version
Chapter 13
30
And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
31
But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
32
And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
33
And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 13
30
Then Caleb quieted the people in the presence of Moses and said, "Let’s go up now and take possession of the land because we can certainly conquer it!"
31
But the men who had gone up with him responded, "We can’t attack the people because they are stronger than we are!"
32
So they gave a negative report to the Israelites about the land they had scouted: "The land we passed through to explore is one that devours its inhabitants, and all the people we saw in it are men of great size.
33
We even saw the Nephilim there—the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim! To ourselves we seemed like grasshoppers, and we must have seemed the same to them."
New Living Translation
Chapter 13
30
But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. 'Let’s go at once to take the land,' he said. 'We can certainly conquer it!'
31
But the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. 'We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!'
32
So they spread this bad report about the land among the Israelites: 'The land we traveled through and explored will devour anyone who goes to live there. All the people we saw were huge.
33
We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak. Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought, too!'
English Standard Version
Chapter 13
30
But Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, "Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it."
31
Then the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are."
32
So they brought to the people of Israel a bad report of the land that they had spied out, saying, "The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in it are of great height.
33
And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim), and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them."
New International Version
Chapter 13
30
Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it."
31
But the men who had gone up with him said, "We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are."
32
And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, "The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.
33
We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them."
New King James Version
Chapter 13
