Chapter 1

44These are the ones who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron counted, with the leaders of Israel, twelve men, each of whom was of his father’s household. 45So all the numbered men of the sons of Israel by their fathers’ households, from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go to war in Israel, 46all the numbered men were 603,550.
47The Levites, however, were not counted among them by their fathers’ tribe. 48For the Lord had spoken to Moses, saying, 49Only the tribe of Levi you shall not count, nor shall you take their census among the sons of Israel.

44These are those that were numbered, which Moses and Aaron numbered, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men: each one was for the house of his fathers. 45So were all those that were numbered of the children of Israel, by the house of their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Israel; 46Even all they that were numbered were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty. 47But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them. 48For the Lord had spoken unto Moses, saying, 49Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel:

44These are the men Moses and Aaron registered, with the assistance of the twelve leaders of Israel; each represented his ancestral family. 45So all the Israelites twenty years old or more, everyone who could serve in Israel’s army, were registered by their ancestral families. 46All those registered numbered 603,550.
47But the Levites were not registered with them by their ancestral tribe. 48For the Lord had told Moses: 49"Do not register or take a census of the tribe of Levi with the other Israelites.

44These were the men registered by Moses and Aaron and the twelve leaders of Israel, all listed according to their ancestral descent. 45They were registered by families — all the men of Israel who were twenty years old or older and able to go to war. 46The total number was 603,550.
47But this total did not include the Levites. 48For the Lord had said to Moses, 49Do not include the tribe of Levi in the registration; do not count them with the rest of the Israelites.
