Micah 2:4-7
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 2
4
On that day they will take up against you a song of mocking
And utter a song of mourning
and
say,
‘We are completely destroyed!
He exchanges the share of my people;
How He removes it from me!
To the apostate He apportions our fields.’
5
Therefore you will have no one applying a measuring line
For you by lot in the assembly of the
Lord
.
6
‘Do not prophesy,’
so
they prophesy.
But if
they do not prophesy about these things,
Insults will not be turned back.
7
Is it being said, house of Jacob:
‘Is the Spirit of the
Lord
impatient?
Are these His works?’
Do My words not do good
For the one walking rightly?
King James Version
Chapter 2
4
In that day shall one take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, We be utterly spoiled: he hath changed the portion of my people: how hath he removed it from me! turning away he hath divided our fields.
5
Therefore thou shalt have none that shall cast a cord by lot in the congregation of the
Lord
.
6
Prophesy ye not, say they to them that prophesy: they shall not prophesy to them, that they shall not take shame.
7
O thou that art named the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the
Lord
straitened? are these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly?
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 2
4
In that day one will take up a taunt against you
and lament mournfully, saying,
"We are totally ruined!
He measures out the allotted land of my people.
How he removes it from me!
He allots our fields to traitors."
5
Therefore, there will be no one
in the assembly of the
Lord
to divide the land by casting lots.
6
"Quit your preaching," they preach.
"They should not preach these things;
shame will not overtake us."
7
House of Jacob, should it be asked,
"Is the Spirit of the
Lord
impatient?
Are these the things he does?"
Don’t my words bring good
to the one who walks uprightly?
New Living Translation
Chapter 2
4
In that day your enemies will make fun of you
by singing this song of despair about you:
'We are finished,
completely ruined!
God has confiscated our land,
taking it from us.
He has given our fields
to those who betrayed us. '
5
Others will set your boundaries then,
and the
Lord
’s people will have no say
in how the land is divided.
6
'Don’t say such things,'
the people respond.
'Don’t prophesy like that.
Such disasters will never come our way!'
7
Should you talk that way, O family of Israel?
Will the
Lord
’s Spirit have patience with such behavior?
If you would do what is right,
you would find my words comforting.
English Standard Version
Chapter 2
4
In that day they shall take up a taunt song against you
and moan bitterly,
and say, "We are utterly ruined;
he changes the portion of my people;
how he removes it from me!
To an apostate he allots our fields."
5
Therefore you will have none to cast the line by lot
in the assembly of the
Lord
.
6
"Do not preach" — thus they preach —
"one should not preach of such things;
disgrace will not overtake us."
7
Should this be said, O house of Jacob?
Has the
Lord
grown impatient?
Are these his deeds?
Do not my words do good
to him who walks uprightly?
New International Version
Chapter 2
4
In that day people will ridicule you;
they will taunt you with this mournful song:
‘We are utterly ruined;
my people’s possession is divided up.
He takes it from me!
He assigns our fields to traitors.’ "
5
Therefore you will have no one in the assembly of the
Lord
to divide the land by lot.
6
"Do not prophesy," their prophets say.
"Do not prophesy about these things;
disgrace will not overtake us."
7
You descendants of Jacob, should it be said,
"Does the
Lord
become impatient?
Does he do such things?" "Do not my words do good
to the one whose ways are upright?
New King James Version
Chapter 2
4
In that day
one
shall take up a proverb against you,
And lament with a bitter lamentation, saying:
‘We are utterly destroyed!
He has changed the heritage of my people;
How He has removed
it
from me!
To a turncoat He has divided our fields.’ ”
5
Therefore you will have no one to determine boundaries by lot
In the assembly of the
Lord
.
6
“Do not prattle,”
you say to those
who prophesy.
So they shall not prophesy to you;
They shall not return insult for insult.
7
You who are
named the house of Jacob:
“Is the Spirit of the
Lord
restricted?
Are
these His doings?
Do not My words do good
To him who walks uprightly?
