Matthew 8:4-9
New American Standard Bible
5And when Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, begging Him,
6and saying, 'Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, terribly tormented.'
7Jesus *said to him, 'I will come and heal him.'
8But the centurion replied, 'Lord, I am not worthy for You to come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
9For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.'
King James Version
5And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
6And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
7And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
8The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
9For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
Christian Standard Bible
5When he entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, pleading with him,
6"Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, in terrible agony."
8"Lord," the centurion replied, "I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
9For I too am a man under authority, having soldiers under my command. I say to this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this! ' and he does it."
New Living Translation
5When Jesus returned to Capernaum, a Roman officer came and pleaded with him,
6Lord, my young servant lies in bed, paralyzed and in terrible pain.'
8But the officer said, 'Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed.
9I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or ‘Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,’ they do it.'
English Standard Version
5When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him,
6“Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.”
7And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.”
8But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed.
9For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
New International Version
5When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help.
6Lord,' he said, 'my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.'
8The centurion replied, 'Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
9For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it.'
