Chapter 17

3And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. 4Peter responded and said to Jesus, 'Lord, it is good that we are here. If You want, I will make three tabernacles here: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.' 5While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice from the cloud said, 'This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him!' 6When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground and were terrified. 7And Jesus came to them and touched them and said, 'Get up, and do not be afraid.' 8And raising their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus Himself alone.
9When they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, 'Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.' 10And His disciples asked Him, 'Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?' 11And He answered and said, 'Elijah is coming and will restore all things; 12but I say to you that Elijah already came, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted. So also the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.' 13Then the disciples understood that He had spoken to them about John the Baptist.
14When they came to the crowd, a man came up to Jesus, falling on his knees before Him and saying, 15Lord, have mercy on my son, because he has seizures and suffers terribly; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16And I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not cure him.'

3And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. 4Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. 5While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. 6And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. 7And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. 8And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. 9And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. 10And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? 11And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. 12But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. 13Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
14And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, 15Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. 16And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

3Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with him. 4Then Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it's good for us to be here. If you want, I will set up three shelters here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
5While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased. Listen to him! " 6When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown and were terrified.
7Jesus came up, touched them, and said, "Get up; don't be afraid." 8When they looked up they saw no one except Jesus alone.
9As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, "Don't tell anyone about the vision until the Son of Man is raised from the dead."
10So the disciples asked him, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first? "
11"Elijah is coming and will restore everything," he replied. 12"But I tell you: Elijah has already come, and they didn't recognize him. On the contrary, they did whatever they pleased to him. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands." 13Then the disciples understood that he had spoken to them about John the Baptist.
14When they reached the crowd, a man approached and knelt down before him. 15"Lord," he said, "have mercy on my son, because he has seizures and suffers terribly. He often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn't heal him."

Chapter 17

3Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking with Jesus.
4Peter exclaimed, 'Lord, it’s wonderful for us to be here! If you want, I’ll make three shelters as memorials — one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.'
5But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, 'This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him.' 6The disciples were terrified and fell face down on the ground.
7Then Jesus came over and touched them. 'Get up,' he said. 'Don’t be afraid.' 8And when they looked up, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they saw only Jesus.
9As they went back down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, 'Don’t tell anyone what you have seen until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.'
10Then his disciples asked him, 'Why do the teachers of religious law insist that Elijah must return before the Messiah comes? '
11Jesus replied, 'Elijah is indeed coming first to get everything ready. 12But I tell you, Elijah has already come, but he wasn’t recognized, and they chose to abuse him. And in the same way they will also make the Son of Man suffer.' 13Then the disciples realized he was talking about John the Baptist.
14At the foot of the mountain, a large crowd was waiting for them. A man came and knelt before Jesus and said, 15Lord, have mercy on my son. He has seizures and suffers terribly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16So I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn’t heal him.'

9And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.” 10And the disciples asked him, “Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?” 11He answered, “Elijah does come, and he will restore all things. 12But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.” 13Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.

10The disciples asked him, 'Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?'
11Jesus replied, 'To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. 12But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.' 13Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.
14When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. 15Lord, have mercy on my son,' he said. 'He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.'
