Mark 2:7-14
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 2
7
Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins except God alone?'
8
Immediately Jesus, aware in His spirit that they were thinking that way within themselves, *said to them, 'Why are you thinking about these things in your hearts?
9
Which is easier, to say to the paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven’; or to say, ‘Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk’?
10
But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins'—He *said to the paralyzed man,
11
I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet, and go home.'
12
And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and were glorifying God, saying, 'We have never seen
anything
like this!'
13
And He went out again by the seashore; and all the people were coming to Him, and He was teaching them.
14
As He passed by, He saw Levi the
son
of Alphaeus sitting in the tax office, and He *said to him, 'Follow Me!' And he got up and followed Him.
King James Version
Chapter 2
7
Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
8
And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts
9
Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
10
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
11
I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
12
And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
13
And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.
14
And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

Chapter 2
7
"Why does he speak like this? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
8
Right away Jesus perceived in his spirit that they were thinking like this within themselves and said to them, "Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?
9
Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat, and walk’?
10
But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" —he told the paralytic—
11
"I tell you: get up, take your mat, and go home."
12
Immediately he got up, took the mat, and went out in front of everyone. As a result, they were all astounded and gave glory to God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this!"
13
Jesus went out again beside the sea. The whole crowd was coming to him, and he was teaching them.
14
Then, passing by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the toll booth, and he said to him, "Follow me," and he got up and followed him.
New Living Translation
Chapter 2
7
What is he saying? This is blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!'
8
Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so he asked them, 'Why do you question this in your hearts?
9
Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’?
10
So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.' Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said,
11
Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!'
12
And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, 'We’ve never seen anything like this before!'
13
Then Jesus went out to the lakeshore again and taught the crowds that were coming to him.
14
As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at his tax collector’s booth. 'Follow me and be my disciple,' Jesus said to him. So Levi got up and followed him.

8
And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, "Why do you question these things in your hearts?
9
Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk’?
10
But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" — he said to the paralytic —
11
"I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home."
12
And he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!"

12
He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this!"

Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them.
