Mark 13:31-36
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 13
31Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. 32But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
33Watch out, stay alert; for you do not know when the appointed time is.
34It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay alert.
35Therefore, stay alert—for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning—
36so that he does not come suddenly and find you asleep.
King James Version
Chapter 13
31Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. 32But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. 33Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. 34For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. 35Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: 36Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.Christian Standard Bible
34"It is like a man on a journey, who left his house, gave authority to his servants, gave each one his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to be alert.
35Therefore be alert, since you don't know when the master of the house is coming--whether in the evening or at midnight or at the crowing of the rooster or early in the morning.
36Otherwise, when he comes suddenly he might find you sleeping.
New Living Translation
32However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.
33And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert !
34The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return.
35You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return — in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak.
36Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning.
English Standard Version
32“But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
33Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come.
34It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake.
35Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning—
36lest he come suddenly and find you asleep.
New International Version
32But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
33Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.
34It's like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.
New King James Version
32“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
33Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is.
34It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.
35Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning—
36lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping.
