Mark 12:16-21
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 12
16And they brought one. And He *said to them, 'Whose image and inscription is this?' And they said to Him, 'Caesar’s.' 17And Jesus said to them, 'Pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.' And they were utterly amazed at Him.
18Some Sadducees (who say that there is no resurrection) *came to Jesus, and began questioning Him, saying,
19Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves behind a wife and does not leave a child, his brother is to marry the wife and raise up children for his brother.
20There were seven brothers; and the first took a wife, and died leaving no children.
21The second one married her, and died leaving behind no children; and the third likewise;

Chapter 12
16And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's. 17And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.
18Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,
19Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
20Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.
21And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.
Christian Standard Bible
18Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him and questioned him:
19"Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies, leaving a wife behind but no child, that man should take the wife and raise up offspring for his brother.
20There were seven brothers. The first married a woman, and dying, left no offspring.
21The second also took her, and he died, leaving no offspring. And the third likewise.
New Living Translation
18Then Jesus was approached by some Sadducees — religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead. They posed this question:
19Teacher, Moses gave us a law that if a man dies, leaving a wife without children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brother’s name.
20Well, suppose there were seven brothers. The oldest one married and then died without children.
21So the second brother married the widow, but he also died without children. Then the third brother married her.

18And Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection. And they asked him a question, saying,
19“Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife, but leaves no child, the man must take the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.
20There were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and when he died left no offspring.

20Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children.
