Mark 12:34-38
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 12
34
When Jesus saw that he had answered intelligently, He said to him, 'You are not far from the kingdom of God.' And
then,
no one dared any longer to question Him.
35
And Jesus responded and
began
saying, as He taught in the temple
area,
'How
is it that
the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?
36
David himself said in the Holy Spirit,
‘THE
Lord
SAID TO MY
Lord
,
'SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,
UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES UNDER YOUR FEET.'?’
37
David himself calls Him ‘Lord’; so in what sense is He his son?' And the large crowd enjoyed listening to Him.
38
And in His teaching He was saying: 'Beware of the scribes who like to walk around in long robes, and
like
personal greetings in the marketplaces,
King James Version
Chapter 12
34
And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.
35
And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the Son of David
36
For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The
Lord
said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
37
David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son And the common people heard him gladly.
38
And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,

When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And no one dared to question him any longer.
35
While Jesus was teaching in the temple, he asked, "How can the scribes say that the Messiah is the son of David?
36
David himself says by the Holy Spirit:
The Lord
declared to my Lord,
‘Sit at my right hand
until I put your enemies under your feet.’
37
David himself calls him ‘Lord’; how then can he be his son?" And the large crowd was listening to him with delight.

He also said in his teaching, "Beware of the scribes, who want to go around in long robes and who want greetings in the marketplaces,
New Living Translation
Chapter 12
34
Realizing how much the man understood, Jesus said to him, 'You are not far from the Kingdom of God.' And after that, no one dared to ask him any more questions.
35
Later, as Jesus was teaching the people in the Temple, he asked, 'Why do the teachers of religious law claim that the Messiah is the son of David?
36
For David himself, speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, said,
‘The
Lord
said to my Lord,
Sit in the place of honor at my right hand
until I humble your enemies beneath your feet.’
37
Since David himself called the Messiah ‘my Lord,’ how can the Messiah be his son?' The large crowd listened to him with great delight.
38
Jesus also taught: 'Beware of these teachers of religious law! For they like to parade around in flowing robes and receive respectful greetings as they walk in the marketplaces.

David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared:
