Lamentations 5:6-11
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 5
6We have submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough bread. 7Our fathers sinned, and are gone; It is we who have been burdened with the punishment for their wrongdoings. 8Slaves rule over us; There is no one to rescue us from their hand. 9We get our bread at the risk of our lives Because of the sword in the wilderness. 10Our skin has become as hot as an oven, Because of the ravages of hunger. 11They violated the women in Zion, The virgins in the cities of Judah.King James Version
Chapter 5
6We have given the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread. 7Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities. 8Servants have ruled over us: there is none that doth deliver us out of their hand. 9We gat our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness. 10Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine. 11They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah.Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 5
6We made a treaty with Egypt and with Assyria, to get enough food. 7Our ancestors sinned; they no longer exist, but we bear their punishment. 8Slaves rule over us; no one rescues us from them. 9We secure our food at the risk of our lives because of the sword in the wilderness. 10Our skin is as hot as an oven from the ravages of hunger. 11Women have been raped in Zion, virgins in the cities of Judah.New Living Translation
Chapter 5
6We submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough food to survive. 7Our ancestors sinned, but they have died — and we are suffering the punishment they deserved!
8Slaves have now become our masters; there is no one left to rescue us.
9We hunt for food at the risk of our lives, for violence rules the countryside.
10The famine has blackened our skin as though baked in an oven.
11Our enemies rape the women in Jerusalem and the young girls in all the towns of Judah.
