Joshua 5:13-15
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 5
13
Now it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, he raised his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand, and Joshua went to him and said to him, 'Are you for us or for our enemies?'
14
He said, 'No; rather I have come now
as
captain of the army of the
Lord
.' And Joshua fell on his face to the ground, and bowed down, and said to him, 'What has my lord to say to his servant?'
15
And the captain of the
Lord
’S army said to Joshua, 'Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.' And Joshua did so.
King James Version
Chapter 5
13
And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?
14
And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the
Lord
am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
15
And the captain of the
Lord
'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 5
13
When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua approached him and asked, "Are you for us or for our enemies?"
14
"Neither," he replied. "I have now come as commander of the
Lord
’s army." Then Joshua bowed with his face to the ground in worship and asked him, "What does my lord want to say to his servant?"
15
The commander of the
Lord
’s army said to Joshua, "Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy." And Joshua did that.
New Living Translation
Chapter 5
13
When Joshua was near the town of Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with sword in hand. Joshua went up to him and demanded, 'Are you friend or foe?'
14
Neither one,' he replied. 'I am the commander of the
Lord
’s army.' At this, Joshua fell with his face to the ground in reverence. 'I am at your command,' Joshua said. 'What do you want your servant to do?'
15
The commander of the
Lord
’s army replied, 'Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.' And Joshua did as he was told.
