New American Standard Bible
Chapter 4
7
then you shall say to them, ‘That the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the
Lord
; when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off.’ So these stones shall become a memorial to the sons of Israel forever.'
8
So the sons of Israel did exactly as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, just as the
Lord
spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel; and they carried them over with them to the encampment and put them down there.
King James Version
Chapter 4
7
Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the
Lord
; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.
8
And the children of Israel did so as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, as the
Lord
spake unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 4

8
The Israelites did just as Joshua had commanded them. The twelve men took stones from the middle of the Jordan, one for each of the Israelite tribes, just as the
Lord
had told Joshua. They carried them to the camp and set them down there.
New Living Translation

Lord
had told Joshua. They carried them to the place where they camped for the night and constructed the memorial there.
