Joshua 24:18-27
New American Standard Bible
19Then Joshua said to the people, 'You will not be able to serve the Lord, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your wrongdoing or your sins.
20If you abandon the Lord and serve foreign gods, then He will turn and do you harm and destroy you after He has done good to you.'
21And the people said to Joshua, 'No, but we will serve the Lord.'
22So Joshua said to the people, 'You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen for yourselves the Lord, to serve Him.' And they said, 'We are witnesses.'
23Now then, do away with the foreign gods which are in your midst, and incline your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel.'
24And the people said to Joshua, 'We will serve the Lord our God and obey His voice.'
25So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and made for them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
26And Joshua wrote these words in the Book of the Law of God; and he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of the Lord.
27Then Joshua said to all the people, 'Behold, this stone shall be a witness against us, because it has heard all the words of the Lord which He spoke to us; so it shall be a witness against you, so that you do not deny your God.'
King James Version
19And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the Lord: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.
20If ye forsake the Lord, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.
21And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the Lord.
22And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the Lord, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.
23Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the Lord God of Israel.
25So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
26And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the Lord.
27And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the Lord which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.

19But Joshua told the people, "You will not be able to worship the Lord, because he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions and sins.
20If you abandon the Lord and worship foreign gods, he will turn against you, harm you, and completely destroy you, after he has been good to you."
25On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people at Shechem and established a statute and ordinance for them.
26Joshua recorded these things in the book of the law of God; he also took a large stone and set it up there under the oak at the sanctuary of the Lord.
27And Joshua said to all the people, "You see this stone—it will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words the Lord said to us, and it will be a witness against you, so that you will not deny your God."
New Living Translation
19Then Joshua warned the people, 'You are not able to serve the Lord, for he is a holy and jealous God. He will not forgive your rebellion and your sins.
20If you abandon the Lord and serve other gods, he will turn against you and destroy you, even though he has been so good to you.'
25So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day at Shechem, committing them to follow the decrees and regulations of the Lord.
26Joshua recorded these things in the Book of God’s Instructions. As a reminder of their agreement, he took a huge stone and rolled it beneath the terebinth tree beside the Tabernacle of the Lord.
