Joshua 2:8-15
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 2
8
Now before the spies lay down, she came up to them on the roof,
9
and said to the men, 'I know that the
Lord
has given you the land, and that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land have despaired because of you.
10
For we have heard how the
Lord
dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed.
11
When we heard
these reports,
our hearts melted and no courage remained in anyone any longer because of you; for the
Lord
your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth below.
12
Now then, please swear to me by the
Lord
, since I have dealt kindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father’s household, and give me a pledge of truth,
13
and spare my father and my mother, and my brothers and my sisters, and all who belong to them, and save our lives from death.'
14
So the men said to her, 'Our life for yours if you do not tell this business of ours; and it shall come about when the
Lord
gives us the land that we will deal kindly and faithfully with you.'
15
Then she let them down by a rope through the window, for her house was on the city wall, so that she was living on the wall.
King James Version
Chapter 2
8
And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;
9
And she said unto the men, I know that the
Lord
hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
10
For we have heard how the
Lord
dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
11
And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the
Lord
your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
12
Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the
Lord
, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token:
13
And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.
14
And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the
Lord
hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
15
Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.

Chapter 2
8
Before the men fell asleep, she went up on the roof
9
and said to them, "I know that the
Lord
has given you this land and that the terror of you has fallen on us, and everyone who lives in the land is panicking because of you.
10
For we have heard how the
Lord
dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings you completely destroyed across the Jordan.
11
When we heard this, we lost heart, and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the
Lord
your God is God in heaven above and on earth below.
12
Now please swear to me by the
Lord
that you will also show kindness to my father’s family, because I showed kindness to you. Give me a sure sign
13
that you will spare the lives of my father, mother, brothers, sisters, and all who belong to them, and save us from death."
14
The men answered her, "We will give our lives for yours. If you don’t report our mission, we will show kindness and faithfulness to you when the
Lord
gives us the land."
15
Then she let them down by a rope through the window, since she lived in a house that was built into the wall of the city.
New Living Translation
Chapter 2
8
Before the spies went to sleep that night, Rahab went up on the roof to talk with them.
9
I know the
Lord
has given you this land,' she told them. 'We are all afraid of you. Everyone in the land is living in terror.
10
For we have heard how the
Lord
made a dry path for you through the Red Sea when you left Egypt. And we know what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan River, whose people you completely destroyed.
11
No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the
Lord
your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below.
12
Now swear to me by the
Lord
that you will be kind to me and my family since I have helped you. Give me some guarantee that
13
when Jericho is conquered, you will let me live, along with my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all their families.'
14
We offer our own lives as a guarantee for your safety,' the men agreed. 'If you don’t betray us, we will keep our promise and be kind to you when the
Lord
gives us the land.'
15
Then, since Rahab’s house was built into the town wall, she let them down by a rope through the window.

8
Before the men lay down, she came up to them on the roof
9
and said to the men, "I know that the
Lord
has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.
10
For we have heard how the
Lord
dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you devoted to destruction.
11
And as soon as we heard it, our hearts melted, and there was no spirit left in any man because of you, for the
Lord
your God, he is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath.
12
Now then, please swear to me by the
Lord
that, as I have dealt kindly with you, you also will deal kindly with my father 's house, and give me a sure sign

that you will save alive my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them, and deliver our lives from death."
14
And the men said to her, "Our life for yours even to death! If you do not tell this business of ours, then when the
Lord
gives us the land we will deal kindly and faithfully with you."
15
Then she let them down by a rope through the window, for her house was built into the city wall, so that she lived in the wall.

Chapter 2
8
Before the spies lay down for the night, she went up on the roof
9
and said to them, "I know that the

10
We have heard how the
Lord
dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed.

that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them—and that you will save us from death."
14
"Our lives for your lives!" the men assured her. "If you don’t tell what we are doing, we will treat you kindly and faithfully when the
Lord
gives us the land."
15
So she let them down by a rope through the window, for the house she lived in was part of the city wall.
