Chapter 19

40The seventh lot went to the tribe of the sons of Dan according to their families. 41The territory of their inheritance was Zorah, Eshtaol, and Ir-shemesh, 42Shaalabbin, Aijalon, and Ithlah, 43Elon, Timnah, and Ekron, 44Eltekeh, Gibbethon, and Baalath, 45Jehud, Bene-berak, and Gath-rimmon, 46Me-jarkon, and Rakkon, with the territory opposite Joppa. 47The territory of the sons of Dan proceeded beyond them; for the sons of Dan went up and fought with Leshem and captured it. Then they struck it with the edge of the sword and took possession of it and settled in it; and they named Leshem Dan after the name of their father Dan.

47When the territory of the descendants of Dan slipped out of their control, they went up and fought against Leshem, captured it, and struck it down with the sword. So they took possession of it, lived there, and renamed Leshem after their ancestor Dan.

40The seventh allotment of land went to the clans of the tribe of Dan.
41The land allocated as their homeland included the following towns: Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir-shemesh, 42Shaalabbin, Aijalon, Ithlah, 43Elon, Timnah, Ekron, 44Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Baalath, 45Jehud, Bene-berak, Gath-rimmon, 46Me-jarkon, Rakkon, and the territory across from Joppa.
47But the tribe of Dan had trouble taking possession of their land, so they attacked the town of Laish. They captured it, slaughtered its people, and settled there. They renamed the town Dan after their ancestor.
