Joshua 18:2-6
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 18
2
But there remained among the sons of Israel seven tribes who had not divided their inheritance.
3
So Joshua said to the sons of Israel, 'How long will you put off entering to take possession of the land which the
Lord
, the God of your fathers, has given you?
4
Provide for yourselves three men from each tribe so that I may send them, and that they may arise and walk through the land and write
a description of
it according to their inheritance; then they shall return to me.
5
And they shall divide it into seven portions; Judah shall stay in its territory on the south, and the house of Joseph shall stay in their territory on the north.
6
And you shall write
a description of
the land in seven divisions, and bring
the description
here to me. Then I will cast lots for you here before the
Lord
our God.
King James Version
Chapter 18
2
And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes, which had not yet received their inheritance.
3
And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the
Lord
God of your fathers hath given you?
4
Give out from among you three men for each tribe: and I will send them, and they shall rise, and go through the land, and describe it according to the inheritance of them; and they shall come again to me.
5
And they shall divide it into seven parts: Judah shall abide in their coast on the south, and the house of Joseph shall abide in their coasts on the north.
6
Ye shall therefore describe the land into seven parts, and bring the description hither to me, that I may cast lots for you here before the
Lord
our God.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 18
2
but seven tribes among the Israelites were left who had not divided up their inheritance.
3
So Joshua asked the Israelites, "How long will you delay going out to take possession of the land that the
Lord
, the God of your fathers, gave you?
4
Appoint for yourselves three men from each tribe, and I will send them out. They are to go and survey the land, write a description of it for the purpose of their inheritance, and return to me.
5
Then they are to divide it into seven portions. Judah is to remain in its territory in the south and Joseph’s family in their territory in the north.
6
When you have written a description of the seven portions of land and brought it to me, I will cast lots for you here in the presence of the
Lord
our God.
New Living Translation
Chapter 18
2
But there remained seven tribes who had not yet been allotted their grants of land.
3
Then Joshua asked them, 'How long are you going to wait before taking possession of the remaining land the
Lord
, the God of your ancestors, has given to you?
4
Select three men from each tribe, and I will send them out to explore the land and map it out. They will then return to me with a written report of their proposed divisions of their new homeland.
5
Let them divide the land into seven sections, excluding Judah’s territory in the south and Joseph’s territory in the north.
6
And when you record the seven divisions of the land and bring them to me, I will cast sacred lots in the presence of the
Lord
our God to assign land to each tribe.

Provide three men from each tribe, and I will send them out that they may set out and go up and down the land. They shall write a description of it with a view to their inheritances, and then come to me.
5
They shall divide it into seven portions. Judah shall continue in his territory on the south, and the house of Joseph shall continue in their territory on the north.
