Joshua 10:12-19
New American Standard Bible
13So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, Until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies. Is it not written in the Book of Jashar? And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not hurry to go down for about a whole day.
14There was no day like that before it or after it, when the Lord listened to the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel.
16Now these five kings had fled and hidden themselves in the cave at Makkedah.
17And it was told to Joshua, saying, 'The five kings have been found hidden in the cave at Makkedah.'
18So Joshua said, 'Roll large stones against the mouth of the cave, and post men by it to guard them,
19but do not stay there yourselves; pursue your enemies and attack them from behind. Do not allow them to enter their cities, for the Lord your God has handed them over to you.'
King James Version
Chapter 10
12Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. 13And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. 14And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.
15And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.
16But these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah.
17And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah.
18And Joshua said, Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave, and set men by it for to keep them:
19And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand.
Christian Standard Bible
14There has been no day like it before or since, when the Lord listened to a man, because the Lord fought for Israel.
15Then Joshua and all Israel with him returned to the camp at Gilgal.
New Living Translation
13So the sun stood still and the moon stayed in place until the nation of Israel had defeated its enemies. Is this event not recorded in The Book of Jashar ? The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and it did not set as on a normal day.
14There has never been a day like this one before or since, when the Lord answered such a prayer. Surely the Lord fought for Israel that day!
16During the battle the five kings escaped and hid in a cave at Makkedah.
17When Joshua heard that they had been found,
18he issued this command: 'Cover the opening of the cave with large rocks, and place guards at the entrance to keep the kings inside.
19The rest of you continue chasing the enemy and cut them down from the rear. Don’t give them a chance to get back to their towns, for the Lord your God has given you victory over them.'
English Standard Version
13And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in the midst of heaven and did not hurry to set for about a whole day.
14There has been no day like it before or since, when the LORD heeded the voice of a man, for the LORD fought for Israel.
16These five kings fled and hid themselves in the cave at Makkedah.
17And it was told to Joshua, “The five kings have been found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah.”
18And Joshua said, “Roll large stones against the mouth of the cave and set men by it to guard them,
19but do not stay there yourselves. Pursue your enemies; attack their rear guard. Do not let them enter their cities, for the LORD your God has given them into your hand.”
New International Version
13So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.
14There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a human being. Surely the LORD was fighting for Israel!
16Now the five kings had fled and hidden in the cave at Makkedah.
17When Joshua was told that the five kings had been found hiding in the cave at Makkedah,
18he said, 'Roll large rocks up to the mouth of the cave, and post some men there to guard it.
19But don't stop; pursue your enemies! Attack them from the rear and don't let them reach their cities, for the LORD your God has given them into your hand.'
New King James Version
