Jonah 1:9-15

10Then the men became extremely afraid, and they said to him, 'How could you do this?' For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.
11So they said to him, 'What should we do to you so that the sea will become calm for us?'—for the sea was becoming increasingly stormy.
12And he said to them, 'Pick me up and hurl me into the sea. Then the sea will become calm for you, because I know that on account of me this great storm has come upon you.'
13However, the men rowed desperately to return to land, but they could not, because the sea was becoming even stormier against them.
14Then they cried out to the Lord and said, 'We earnestly pray, O Lord, do not let us perish on account of this man’s life, and do not put innocent blood on us; for You, Lord, have done as You pleased.'

10Then the men were seized by a great fear and said to him, "What is this you’ve done?" The men knew he was fleeing from the Lord’s presence because he had told them.
11So they said to him, "What should we do to you so that the sea will calm down for us?" For the sea was getting worse and worse.

10The sailors were terrified when they heard this, for he had already told them he was running away from the Lord. 'Oh, why did you do it?' they groaned.
11And since the storm was getting worse all the time, they asked him, 'What should we do to you to stop this storm?'
13Instead, the sailors rowed even harder to get the ship to the land. But the stormy sea was too violent for them, and they couldn’t make it.
14Then they cried out to the Lord, Jonah’s God. 'O Lord,' they pleaded, 'don’t make us die for this man’s sin. And don’t hold us responsible for his death. O Lord, you have sent this storm upon him for your own good reasons.'

14Therefore they called out to the Lord, "O Lord, let us not perish for this man 's life, and lay not on us innocent blood, for you, O Lord, have done as it pleased you."
15So they picked up Jonah and hurled him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging.

13Instead, the men did their best to row back to land. But they could not, for the sea grew even wilder than before.
14Then they cried out to the Lord, "Please, Lord, do not let us die for taking this man’s life. Do not hold us accountable for killing an innocent man, for you, Lord, have done as you pleased."
15Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm.
