Jonah 1:13-16
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 1
13
However, the men rowed
desperately
to return to land, but they could not, because the sea was becoming
even
stormier against them.
14
Then they cried out to the
Lord
and said, 'We earnestly pray, O
Lord
, do not let us perish on account of this man’s life, and do not put innocent blood on us; for You,
Lord
, have done as You pleased.'
15
So they picked up Jonah and hurled him into the sea, and the sea stopped its raging.
16
Then the men became extremely afraid of the
Lord
, and they offered a sacrifice to the
Lord
and made vows.
King James Version
Chapter 1
13
Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.
14
Wherefore they cried unto the
Lord
, and said, We beseech thee, O
Lord
, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O
Lord
, hast done as it pleased thee.
15
So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.
16
Then the men feared the
Lord
exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the
Lord
, and made vows.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 1
13
Nevertheless, the men rowed hard to get back to dry land, but they couldn’t because the sea was raging against them more and more.
14
So they called out to the
Lord
: "Please,
Lord
, don’t let us perish because of this man’s life, and don’t charge us with innocent blood! For you,
Lord
, have done just as you pleased."
15
Then they picked up Jonah and threw him into the sea, and the sea stopped its raging.
16
The men were seized by great fear of the
Lord
, and they offered a sacrifice to the
Lord
and made vows.
New Living Translation
Chapter 1
13
Instead, the sailors rowed even harder to get the ship to the land. But the stormy sea was too violent for them, and they couldn’t make it.
14
Then they cried out to the
Lord
, Jonah’s God. 'O
Lord
,' they pleaded, 'don’t make us die for this man’s sin. And don’t hold us responsible for his death. O
Lord
, you have sent this storm upon him for your own good reasons.'
15
Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once!
16
The sailors were awestruck by the
Lord
’s great power, and they offered him a sacrifice and vowed to serve him.
English Standard Version
Chapter 1
13
Nevertheless, the men rowed hard to get back to dry land, but they could not, for the sea grew more and more tempestuous against them.
14
Therefore they called out to the
Lord
, "O
Lord
, let us not perish for this man 's life, and lay not on us innocent blood, for you, O
Lord
, have done as it pleased you."
15
So they picked up Jonah and hurled him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging.
16
Then the men feared the
Lord
exceedingly, and they offered a sacrifice to the
Lord
and made vows.
New International Version
Chapter 1
13
Instead, the men did their best to row back to land. But they could not, for the sea grew even wilder than before.
14
Then they cried out to the
Lord
, "Please,
Lord
, do not let us die for taking this man’s life. Do not hold us accountable for killing an innocent man, for you,
Lord
, have done as you pleased."
15
Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm.
16
At this the men greatly feared the
Lord
, and they offered a sacrifice to the
Lord
and made vows to him.
New King James Version

15
