Jeremiah 30:3-9
New American Standard Bible
King James Version
Chapter 30
3For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it. 4And these are the words that the LORD spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah. 5For thus saith the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace. 6Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness? 7Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it. 8For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no more serve themselves of him: 9But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.Christian Standard Bible
5This is what the Lord says: We have heard a cry of terror, of dread--there is no peace.
6Ask and see whether a male can give birth. Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor and every face turned pale?
7How awful that day will be! There will be no other like it! It will be a time of trouble for Jacob, but he will be saved out of it.
New Living Translation
5This is what the Lord says: 'I hear cries of fear; there is terror and no peace.
6Now let me ask you a question: Do men give birth to babies? Then why do they stand there, ashen-faced, hands pressed against their sides like a woman in labor?
7In all history there has never been such a time of terror. It will be a time of trouble for my people Israel. Yet in the end they will be saved!
8For in that day,' says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, 'I will break the yoke from their necks and snap their chains. Foreigners will no longer be their masters.
9For my people will serve the Lord their God and their king descended from David — the king I will raise up for them.
English Standard Version
5“Thus says the LORD: We have heard a cry of panic, of terror, and no peace.
6Ask now, and see, can a man bear a child? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor? Why has every face turned pale?
7Alas! That day is so great there is none like it; it is a time of distress for Jacob; yet he shall be saved out of it.
8“And it shall come to pass in that day, declares the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and I will burst your bonds, and foreigners shall no more make a servant of him.
9But they shall serve the LORD their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.
