Jeremiah 23:17-22
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 23
17They keep saying to those who despise Me, ‘The Lord has said, 'You will have peace'?’; And as for everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart, They say, ‘Disaster will not come on you.’ 18But who has stood in the council of the Lord, That he should see and hear His word? Who has paid attention to His word and listened? 19Behold, the storm of the Lord has gone forth in wrath, Even a whirling tempest; It will swirl down on the head of the wicked. 20The anger of the Lord will not turn back Until He has performed and carried out the purposes of His heart; In the last days you will clearly understand it. 21I did not send these prophets, But they ran. I did not speak to them, But they prophesied. 22But if they had stood in My council, Then they would have announced My words to My people, And would have turned them back from their evil way And from the evil of their deeds.King James Version
Chapter 23
17They say still unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you. 18For who hath stood in the counsel of the LORD, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it? 19Behold, a whirlwind of the LORD is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind: it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked. 20The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly. 21I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied. 22But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.Christian Standard Bible
18For who has stood in the council of the Lord to see and hear his word? Who has paid attention to his word and obeyed?
19Look, a storm from the Lord! Wrath has gone out, a whirling storm. It will whirl about the heads of the wicked.
20The Lord's anger will not turn away until he has completely fulfilled the purposes of his heart. In time to come you will understand it clearly.
21I did not send out these prophets, yet they ran. I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied.
22If they had really stood in my council, they would have enabled my people to hear my words and would have turned them from their evil ways and their evil deeds.
New Living Translation
18'Have any of these prophets been in the Lord’s presence to hear what he is really saying? Has even one of them cared enough to listen?
19Look! The Lord’s anger bursts out like a storm, a whirlwind that swirls down on the heads of the wicked.
20The anger of the Lord will not diminish until it has finished all he has planned. In the days to come you will understand all this very clearly.
English Standard Version
18For who among them has stood in the council of the LORD to see and to hear his word, or who has paid attention to his word and listened?
19Behold, the storm of the LORD! Wrath has gone forth, a whirling tempest; it will burst upon the head of the wicked.
20The anger of the LORD will not turn back until he has executed and accomplished the intents of his heart. In the latter days you will understand it clearly.
21“I did not send the prophets, yet they ran; I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied.
22But if they had stood in my council, then they would have proclaimed my words to my people, and they would have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their deeds.
New International Version
Chapter 23
17They keep saying to those who despise me, 'The LORD says: You will have peace.' And to all who follow the stubbornness of their hearts they say, 'No harm will come to you.' 18But which of them has stood in the council of the LORD to see or to hear his word? Who has listened and heard his word? 19See, the storm of the LORD will burst out in wrath, a whirlwind swirling down on the heads of the wicked. 20The anger of the LORD will not turn back until he fully accomplishes the purposes of his heart. In days to come you will understand it clearly. 21I did not send these prophets, yet they have run with their message; I did not speak to them, yet they have prophesied.New King James Version
