Jeremiah 19:1-5
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 19
1
This is what the
Lord
says: 'Go and buy a potter’s earthenware jar, and
take
some of the elders of the people and some of the senior priests.
2
Then go out to the Valley of Ben-hinnom, which is by the entrance of the Potsherd Gate, and proclaim there the words that I tell you,
3
and say, ‘Hear the word of the
Lord
, you kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem. This is what the
Lord
of armies, the God of Israel says: 'Behold I am going to bring a disaster upon this place, at which the ears of everyone that hears of it will tingle.
4
Since they have abandoned Me and have made this place foreign, and have burned sacrifices in it to other gods that neither they nor their forefathers nor the kings of Judah had
ever
known, and
since
they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent
5
and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal,
a thing
which I did not command nor speak of, nor did it
ever
enter My mind;
King James Version
Chapter 19
1
Thus saith the
Lord
, Go and get a potter's earthen bottle, and take of the ancients of the people, and of the ancients of the priests;
2
And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee,
3
And say, Hear ye the word of the
Lord
, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus saith the
Lord
of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.
4
Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;
5
They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 19
1
This is what the
Lord
says: "Go, buy a potter’s clay jar. Take some of the elders of the people and some of the leading priests
2
and go out to Ben Hinnom Valley near the entrance of the Potsherd Gate. Proclaim there the words I speak to you.
3
Say, ‘Hear the word of the
Lord
, kings of Judah and residents of Jerusalem. This is what the
Lord
of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I am going to bring such disaster on this place that everyone who hears about it will shudder
4
because they have abandoned me and made this a foreign place. They have burned incense in it to other gods that they, their fathers, and the kings of Judah have never known. They have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.
5
They have built high places to Baal on which to burn their children in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, something I have never commanded or mentioned; I never entertained the thought.
New Living Translation
Chapter 19
1
This is what the
Lord
said to me: 'Go and buy a clay jar. Then ask some of the leaders of the people and of the priests to follow you.
2
Go out through the Gate of Broken Pots to the garbage dump in the valley of Ben-Hinnom, and give them this message.
3
Say to them, ‘Listen to this message from the
Lord
, you kings of Judah and citizens of Jerusalem! This is what the
Lord
of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: I will bring a terrible disaster on this place, and the ears of those who hear about it will ring!
4
‘For Israel has forsaken me and turned this valley into a place of wickedness. The people burn incense to foreign gods — idols never before acknowledged by this generation, by their ancestors, or by the kings of Judah. And they have filled this place with the blood of innocent children.
5
They have built pagan shrines to Baal, and there they burn their sons as sacrifices to Baal. I have never commanded such a horrible deed; it never even crossed my mind to command such a thing!

Chapter 19
1
Thus says the
Lord
, "Go, buy a potter 's earthenware flask, and take some of the elders of the people and some of the elders of the priests,
2
and go out to the Valley of the Son of Hinnom at the entry of the Potsherd Gate, and proclaim there the words that I tell you.

Lord
, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus says the
Lord
of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing such disaster upon this place that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle.
4
Because the people have forsaken me and have profaned this place by making offerings in it to other gods whom neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have known; and because they have filled this place with the blood of innocents,
5
and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command or decree, nor did it come into my mind —
