Jeremiah 17:8-11
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 17
8For he will be like a tree planted by the water That extends its roots by a stream, And does not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought, Nor cease to yield fruit. 9'The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it? 10I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, To give to each person according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds. 11As a partridge that hatches eggs which it has not laid, So is a person who makes a fortune, but unjustly; In the middle of his days it will abandon him, And in the end he will be a fool.'King James Version
Chapter 17
8For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. 9The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 10I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. 11As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.Christian Standard Bible
9The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and incurable--who can understand it?
10I, the Lord, examine the mind, I test the heart to give to each according to his way, according to what his actions deserve.
11He who makes a fortune unjustly is like a partridge that hatches eggs it didn't lay. In the middle of his life his riches will abandon him, so in the end he will be a fool.
