Hosea 5:1-13

New American Standard Bible

Chapter 5

1Hear this, you priests! Pay attention, house of Israel! Listen, you of the house of the king! For the judgment applies to you, Because you have been a trap at Mizpah, And a net spread out on Tabor. 2And the rebels have gone deep in depravity, But I will discipline all of them. 3I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from Me; Because now, Ephraim, you have been unfaithful, Israel has defiled itself. 4Their deeds will not allow them To return to their God. For a spirit of infidelity is within them, And they do not know the Lord. 5Moreover, the pride of Israel testifies against him, And Israel and Ephraim stumble in their wrongdoing; Judah also has stumbled with them. 6They will go with their flocks and herds To seek the Lord, but they will not find Him; He has withdrawn from them. 7They have dealt treacherously with the Lord, For they have given birth to illegitimate children. Now the new moon will devour them with their land. 8Blow the horn in Gibeah, And the trumpet in Ramah. Sound an alarm at Beth-aven: 'Behind you, Benjamin!' 9Ephraim will become a desolation in the day of rebuke; Among the tribes of Israel I make known what is trustworthy. 10The leaders of Judah have become like those who displace a boundary marker; On them I will pour out My anger like water. 11Ephraim is oppressed, broken by judgment, Because he was determined to follow man’s command. 12Therefore I am like a moth to Ephraim, And like rottenness to the house of Judah. 13When Ephraim saw his sickness, And Judah his sore, Ephraim then went to Assyria And sent word to King Jareb. But he is unable to heal you, Or to cure you of your sore.

Chapter 5

1Hear this, O priests! Pay attention, O house of Israel! Give ear, O house of the king! For the judgment is for you; for you have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread upon Tabor. 2And the revolters have gone deep into slaughter, but I will discipline all of them. 3I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from me; for now, O Ephraim, you have played the whore; Israel is defiled. 4Their deeds do not permit them to return to their God. For the spirit of whoredom is within them, and they know not the LORD. 5The pride of Israel testifies to his face; Israel and Ephraim shall stumble in his guilt; Judah also shall stumble with them. 6With their flocks and herds they shall go to seek the LORD, but they will not find him; he has withdrawn from them. 7They have dealt faithlessly with the LORD; for they have borne alien children. Now the new moon shall devour them with their fields. 8Blow the horn in Gibeah, the trumpet in Ramah. Sound the alarm at Beth-aven; we follow you, O Benjamin! 9Ephraim shall become a desolation in the day of punishment; among the tribes of Israel I make known what is sure. 10The princes of Judah have become like those who move the landmark; upon them I will pour out my wrath like water. 11Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment, because he was determined to go after filth. 12But I am like a moth to Ephraim, and like dry rot to the house of Judah. 13When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria, and sent to the great king. But he is not able to cure you or heal your wound.

Chapter 5

1“Hear this, O priests! Take heed, O house of Israel! Give ear, O house of the king! For yours is the judgment, Because you have been a snare to Mizpah And a net spread on Tabor. 2The revolters are deeply involved in slaughter, Though I rebuke them all. 3 I know Ephraim, And Israel is not hidden from Me; For now, O Ephraim, you commit harlotry; Israel is defiled. 4“They do not direct their deeds Toward turning to their God, For the spirit of harlotry is in their midst, And they do not know the Lord. 5The pride of Israel testifies to his face; Therefore Israel and Ephraim stumble in their iniquity; Judah also stumbles with them. 6“With their flocks and herds They shall go to seek the Lord, But they will not find Him; He has withdrawn Himself from them. 7They have dealt treacherously with the Lord, For they have begotten pagan children. Now a New Moon shall devour them and their heritage. 8“Blow the ram’s horn in Gibeah, The trumpet in Ramah! Cry aloud at Beth Aven, Look behind you, O Benjamin!’ 9Ephraim shall be desolate in the day of rebuke; Among the tribes of Israel I make known what is sure. 10“The princes of Judah are like those who remove a landmark; I will pour out My wrath on them like water. 11Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, Because he willingly walked by human precept. 12Therefore I will be to Ephraim like a moth, And to the house of Judah like rottenness. 13“When Ephraim saw his sickness, And Judah saw his wound, Then Ephraim went to Assyria And sent to King Jareb; Yet he cannot cure you, Nor heal you of your wound.
