Haggai 1:5-10
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 1
5Now then, the Lord of armies says this: 'Consider your ways! 6You have sown much, only to harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but there is not enough for anyone to get warm; and the one who earns, earns wages to put into a money bag full of holes.'
7The Lord of armies says this: 'Consider your ways!
8Go up to the mountains, bring wood, and rebuild the temple, that I may be pleased with it and be honored,' says the Lord.
9You start an ambitious project, but behold, it comes to little; when you bring it home, I blow it away. Why?' declares the Lord of armies. 'It is because of My house which remains desolate, while each of you runs to his own house.
10Therefore, because of you the sky has withheld its dew, and the earth has withheld its produce.
King James Version
Chapter 1
5Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways. 6Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. 7Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways. 8Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD. 9Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house. 10Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.Christian Standard Bible
7The Lord of Armies says this: "Think carefully about your ways.
8Go up into the hills, bring down lumber, and build the house; and I will be pleased with it and be glorified," says the Lord.
9"You expected much, but then it amounted to little. When you brought the harvest to your house, I ruined it. Why? " This is the declaration of the Lord of Armies. "Because my house still lies in ruins, while each of you is busy with his own house.
New Living Translation
Chapter 1
5This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Look at what’s happening to you! 6You have planted much but harvest little. You eat but are not satisfied. You drink but are still thirsty. You put on clothes but cannot keep warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes!
7This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Look at what’s happening to you!
8Now go up into the hills, bring down timber, and rebuild my house. Then I will take pleasure in it and be honored, says the Lord.
9You hoped for rich harvests, but they were poor. And when you brought your harvest home, I blew it away. Why? Because my house lies in ruins, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, while all of you are busy building your own fine houses.
10It’s because of you that the heavens withhold the dew and the earth produces no crops.
