Ezra 5:15-17
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 5
15
And he said to him, 'Take these utensils, go
and
deposit them in the temple in Jerusalem, and have the house of God rebuilt in its place.'
16
Then that Sheshbazzar came
and
laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem; and from then until now it has been under construction and it is not
yet
completed.’
17
And now, if it pleases the king, let a search be conducted in the king’s treasure house, which is there in Babylon, as to whether a decree was issued by King Cyrus to rebuild this house of God in Jerusalem; and let the king send to us his decision concerning this
matter.
'
King James Version
Chapter 5
15
And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.
16
Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished.
17
Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king's treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 5
15
Cyrus told him, "Take these articles, put them in the temple in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be rebuilt on its original site."
16
Then this same Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundation of God’s house in Jerusalem. It has been under construction from that time until now, but it has not been completed.
17
So if it pleases the king, let a search of the royal archives in Babylon be conducted to see if it is true that a decree was issued by King Cyrus to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem. Let the king’s decision regarding this matter be sent to us.
New Living Translation
Chapter 5
15
The king instructed him to return the cups to their place in Jerusalem and to rebuild the Temple of God there on its original site.
16
So this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the Temple of God in Jerusalem. The people have been working on it ever since, though it is not yet completed.’
17
'Therefore, if it pleases the king, we request that a search be made in the royal archives of Babylon to discover whether King Cyrus ever issued a decree to rebuild God’s Temple in Jerusalem. And then let the king send us his decision in this matter.'
English Standard Version
Chapter 5
15
and he said to him, "Take these vessels, go and put them in the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be rebuilt on its site."
16
Then this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the house of God that is in Jerusalem, and from that time until now it has been in building, and it is not yet finished.’
17
Therefore, if it seems good to the king, let search be made in the royal archives there in Babylon, to see whether a decree was issued by Cyrus the king for the rebuilding of this house of God in Jerusalem. And let the king send us his pleasure in this matter."
New International Version
Chapter 5
15
and he told him, ‘Take these articles and go and deposit them in the temple in Jerusalem. And rebuild the house of God on its site.’
16
"So this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem. From that day to the present it has been under construction but is not yet finished."
17
Now if it pleases the king, let a search be made in the royal archives of Babylon to see if King Cyrus did in fact issue a decree to rebuild this house of God in Jerusalem. Then let the king send us his decision in this matter.
New King James Version
Chapter 5
15
And he said to him, ‘Take these articles; go, carry them to the temple
site
that
is
in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be rebuilt on its former site.’
16
Then the same Sheshbazzar came
and
laid the foundation of the house of God which
is
in Jerusalem; but from that time even until now it has been under construction, and it is not finished.”
17
Now therefore, if
it seems
good to the king, let a search be made in the king’s treasure house, which
is
there in Babylon, whether it is
so
that a decree was issued by King Cyrus to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send us his pleasure concerning this
matter.
