Exodus 8:24-27
New American Standard Bible
25Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and said, 'Go, sacrifice to your God within the land.'
26But Moses said, 'It is not permissible for us to do so, because we will sacrifice to the Lord our God that which is an abomination to the Egyptians. If we sacrifice that which is an abomination to the Egyptians before their eyes, will they not stone us?
27We must go a three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God, just as He commands us.'
King James Version
Chapter 8
24And the LORD did so; and there came a grievous swarm of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants' houses, and into all the land of Egypt: the land was corrupted by reason of the swarm of flies. 25And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land. 26And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us? 27We will go three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the LORD our God, as he shall command us.Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 8
24And the Lord did this. Thick swarms of flies went into Pharaoh's palace and his officials' houses. Throughout Egypt the land was ruined because of the swarms of flies. 25Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, "Go sacrifice to your God within the country."
26But Moses said, "It would not be right to do that, because what we will sacrifice to the Lord our God is detestable to the Egyptians. If we sacrifice what the Egyptians detest in front of them, won't they stone us?
27We must go a distance of three days into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God as he instructs us."
New Living Translation
26But Moses replied, 'That wouldn’t be right. The Egyptians detest the sacrifices that we offer to the Lord our God. Look, if we offer our sacrifices here where the Egyptians can see us, they will stone us.
27We must take a three-day trip into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the Lord our God, just as he has commanded us.'
English Standard Version
25Then Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God within the land.”
26But Moses said, “It would not be right to do so, for the offerings we shall sacrifice to the LORD our God are an abomination to the Egyptians. If we sacrifice offerings abominable to the Egyptians before their eyes, will they not stone us?
27We must go three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD our God as he tells us.”
New International Version
26But Moses said, 'That would not be right. The sacrifices we offer the LORD our God would be detestable to the Egyptians. And if we offer sacrifices that are detestable in their eyes, will they not stone us?
27We must take a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the LORD our God, as he commands us.'
New King James Version
26And Moses said, “It is not right to do so, for we would be sacrificing the abomination of the Egyptians to the Lord our God. If we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, then will they not stone us?
27We will go three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God as He will command us.”
