Exodus 4:2-7
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 4
2
The
Lord
said to him, 'What is that in your hand?' And he said, 'A staff.'
3
Then He said, 'Throw it on the ground.' So he threw it on the ground, and it turned into a serpent; and Moses fled from it.
4
But the
Lord
said to Moses, 'Reach out with your hand and grasp
it
by its tail'—so he reached out with his hand and caught it, and it turned into a staff in his hand—
5
so that they may believe that the
Lord
, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.'
6
The
Lord
furthermore said to him, 'Now put your hand inside the fold of your robe.' So he put his hand inside the fold, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous like snow.
7
Then He said, 'Put your hand inside the fold of your robe again.' So he put his hand into the fold again, and when he took it out of the fold, behold, it was restored like
the rest of
his flesh.
King James Version
Chapter 4
2
And the
Lord
said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.
3
And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.
4
And the
Lord
said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:
5
That they may believe that the
Lord
God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
6
And the
Lord
said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.
7
And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.

Chapter 4
2
The
Lord
asked him, "What is that in your hand?" "A staff," he replied.
3
"Throw it on the ground," he said. So Moses threw it on the ground, it became a snake, and he ran from it.
4
The
Lord
told Moses, "Stretch out your hand and grab it by the tail." So he stretched out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand.
5
"This will take place," he continued, "so that they will believe that the
Lord
, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you."
6
In addition the
Lord
said to him, "Put your hand inside your cloak." So he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, his hand was diseased, resembling snow.
7
"Put your hand back inside your cloak," he said. So he put his hand back inside his cloak, and when he took it out, it had again become like the rest of his skin.
New Living Translation
Chapter 4
2
Then the
Lord
asked him, 'What is that in your hand?' 'A shepherd’s staff,' Moses replied.
3
Throw it down on the ground,' the
Lord
told him. So Moses threw down the staff, and it turned into a snake! Moses jumped back.
4
Then the
Lord
told him, 'Reach out and grab its tail.' So Moses reached out and grabbed it, and it turned back into a shepherd’s staff in his hand.
5
Perform this sign,' the
Lord
told him. 'Then they will believe that the
Lord
, the God of their ancestors — the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob — really has appeared to you.'
6
Then the
Lord
said to Moses, 'Now put your hand inside your cloak.' So Moses put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out again, his hand was white as snow with a severe skin disease.
7
Now put your hand back into your cloak,' the
Lord
said. So Moses put his hand back in, and when he took it out again, it was as healthy as the rest of his body.
