Exodus 4:13-18
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 4
13
But he said, 'Please, Lord, now send
the message
by whomever You will.'
14
Then the anger of the
Lord
burned against Moses, and He said, 'Is there not your brother Aaron the Levite? I know that he speaks fluently. And moreover, behold, he is coming out to meet you; when he sees you, he will be overjoyed.
15
So you are to speak to him and put the words in his mouth; and I Myself will be with your mouth and his mouth, and I will instruct you in what you are to do.
16
He shall speak for you to the people; and he will be as a mouth for you and you will be as God to him.
17
And you shall take in your hand this staff, with which you shall perform the signs.'
18
Then Moses departed and returned to his father-in-law Jethro, and said to him, 'Please, let me go, that I may return to my brothers who are in Egypt, and see if they are still alive.' And Jethro said to Moses, 'Go in peace.'
King James Version
Chapter 4
13
And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.
14
And the anger of the
Lord
was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.
15
And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.
16
And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.
17
And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.
18
And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 4
13
Moses said, "Please, Lord, send someone else."
14
Then the
Lord
’s anger burned against Moses, and he said, "Isn’t Aaron the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, he is on his way now to meet you. He will rejoice when he sees you.
15
You will speak with him and tell him what to say. I will help both you and him to speak and will teach you both what to do.
16
He will speak to the people for you. He will serve as a mouth for you, and you will serve as God to him.
17
And take this staff in your hand that you will perform the signs with."
18
Then Moses went back to his father-in-law Jethro and said to him, "Please let me return to my relatives in Egypt and see if they are still living." Jethro said to Moses, "Go in peace."
New Living Translation
Chapter 4
13
But Moses again pleaded, 'Lord, please! Send anyone else.'
14
Then the
Lord
became angry with Moses. 'All right,' he said. 'What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he speaks well. And look! He is on his way to meet you now. He will be delighted to see you.
15
Talk to him, and put the words in his mouth. I will be with both of you as you speak, and I will instruct you both in what to do.
16
Aaron will be your spokesman to the people. He will be your mouthpiece, and you will stand in the place of God for him, telling him what to say.
17
And take your shepherd’s staff with you, and use it to perform the miraculous signs I have shown you.'
18
So Moses went back home to Jethro, his father-in-law. 'Please let me return to my relatives in Egypt,' Moses said. 'I don’t even know if they are still alive.' 'Go in peace,' Jethro replied.

Chapter 4
13
But Moses said, "Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else."
14
Then the
Lord
’s anger burned against Moses and he said, "What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you.
15
You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do.
16
He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him.
17
But take this staff in your hand so you can perform the signs with it."
18
Then Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, "Let me return to my own people in Egypt to see if any of them are still alive." Jethro said, "Go, and I wish you well."
