Exodus 39:8-15
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 39
8
And he made the breastpiece, the work of a skilled embroiderer, like the workmanship of the ephod: of gold
and
of violet, purple, and scarlet
material
and fine twisted linen.
9
It was square; they made the breastpiece folded double, a span long and a span wide when folded double.
10
And they mounted four rows of stones on it. The first row
was
a row of ruby, topaz, and emerald;
11
and the second row, a turquoise, a sapphire, and a diamond;
12
and the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;
13
and the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. They were set in gold filigree
settings
when they were mounted.
14
The stones corresponded to the names of the sons of Israel; they were twelve, corresponding to their names,
engraved with
the engravings of a signet, each with its name for the twelve tribes.
15
And they made for the breastpiece chains like cords, work of twisted cords of pure gold.
King James Version
Chapter 39
8
And he made the breastplate of cunning work, like the work of the ephod; of gold, blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen.
9
It was foursquare; they made the breastplate double: a span was the length thereof, and a span the breadth thereof, being doubled.
10
And they set in it four rows of stones: the first row was a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this was the first row.
11
And the second row, an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond.
12
And the third row, a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst.
13
And the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper: they were inclosed in ouches of gold in their inclosings.
14
And the stones were according to the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet, every one with his name, according to the twelve tribes.
15
And they made upon the breastplate chains at the ends, of wreathen work of pure gold.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 39
8
He also made the embroidered breastpiece with the same workmanship as the ephod of gold, of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and of finely spun linen.
9
They made the breastpiece square and folded double, nine inches long and nine inches wide.
10
They mounted four rows of gemstones on it.
The first row was a row of carnelian, topaz, and emerald;
11
the second row, a turquoise, a lapis lazuli, and a diamond;
12
the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;
13
and the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper.
They were surrounded with gold filigree in their settings.
14
The twelve stones corresponded to the names of Israel’s sons. Each stone was engraved like a seal with one of the names of the twelve tribes.
15
They made braided chains of pure gold cord for the breastpiece.
New Living Translation
Chapter 39
8
Bezalel made the chestpiece with great skill and care. He made it to match the ephod, using finely woven linen embroidered with gold and with blue, purple, and scarlet thread.
9
He made the chestpiece of a single piece of cloth folded to form a pouch nine inches square.
10
They mounted four rows of gemstones on it. The first row contained a red carnelian, a pale-green peridot, and an emerald.
11
The second row contained a turquoise, a blue lapis lazuli, and a white moonstone.
12
The third row contained an orange jacinth, an agate, and a purple amethyst.
13
The fourth row contained a blue-green beryl, an onyx, and a green jasper. All these stones were set in gold filigree.
14
Each stone represented one of the twelve sons of Israel, and the name of that tribe was engraved on it like a seal.
15
To attach the chestpiece to the ephod, they made braided cords of pure gold thread.
English Standard Version
Chapter 39
8
He made the breastpiece, in skilled work, in the style of the ephod, of gold, blue and purple and scarlet yarns, and fine twined linen.
9
It was square. They made the breastpiece doubled, a span its length and a span its breadth when doubled.
10
And they set in it four rows of stones. A row of sardius, topaz, and carbuncle was the first row;
11
and the second row, an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond;
12
and the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;
13
and the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. They were enclosed in settings of gold filigree.
14
There were twelve stones with their names according to the names of the sons of Israel. They were like signets, each engraved with its name, for the twelve tribes.
15
And they made on the breastpiece twisted chains like cords, of pure gold.
New International Version

8
They fashioned the breastpiece—the work of a skilled craftsman. They made it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen.
9
It was square—a span long and a span wide—and folded double.
10
Then they mounted four rows of precious stones on it. The first row was carnelian, chrysolite and beryl;
11
the second row was turquoise, lapis lazuli and emerald;
12
the third row was jacinth, agate and amethyst;
13
the fourth row was topaz, onyx and jasper. They were mounted in gold filigree settings.
14
There were twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.
15
For the breastpiece they made braided chains of pure gold, like a rope.
