Exodus 32:18-20
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 32
18
But he said,
'It is not the sound of the cry of victory,
Nor is it the sound of the cry of defeat;
But I hear the sound of singing.'
19
And it came about, as soon as Moses approached the camp, that he saw the calf and
the people
dancing; and Moses’ anger burned, and he threw the tablets from his hands and shattered them to pieces at the foot of the mountain.
20
Then he took the calf which they had made and completely burned
it
with fire, and ground it to powder, and scattered it over the surface of the water and made the sons of Israel drink
it.
King James Version
Chapter 32
18
And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear.
19
And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.
20
And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 32
18
But Moses replied:
It’s not the sound of a victory cry
and not the sound of a cry of defeat;
I hear the sound of singing!
19
As he approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, Moses became enraged and threw the tablets out of his hands, smashing them at the base of the mountain.
20
He took the calf they had made, burned it up, and ground it to powder. He scattered the powder over the surface of the water and forced the Israelites to drink the water.
New Living Translation
Chapter 32
18
But Moses replied, 'No, it’s not a shout of victory nor the wailing of defeat. I hear the sound of a celebration.'
19
When they came near the camp, Moses saw the calf and the dancing, and he burned with anger. He threw the stone tablets to the ground, smashing them at the foot of the mountain.
20
He took the calf they had made and burned it. Then he ground it into powder, threw it into the water, and forced the people to drink it.
English Standard Version
Chapter 32
18
But he said, "It is not the sound of shouting for victory, or the sound of the cry of defeat, but the sound of singing that I hear."
19
And as soon as he came near the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, Moses ' anger burned hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain.
20
He took the calf that they had made and burned it with fire and ground it to powder and scattered it on the water and made the people of Israel drink it.
New International Version
Chapter 32
18
Moses replied:
"It is not the sound of victory,
it is not the sound of defeat;
it is the sound of singing that I hear."
19
When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain.
20
And he took the calf the people had made and burned it in the fire; then he ground it to powder, scattered it on the water and made the Israelites drink it.
New King James Version
Chapter 32
18
But he said:
“
It is
not the noise of the shout of victory,
Nor the noise of the cry of defeat,
But
the sound of singing I hear.”
19
So it was, as soon as he came near the camp, that he saw the calf
and
the dancing. So Moses’ anger became hot, and he cast the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain.
20
Then he took the calf which they had made, burned
it
in the fire, and ground
it
to powder; and he scattered
it
on the water and made the children of Israel drink
it.
