Esther 4:4-10
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 4
4
Then Esther’s attendants and her eunuchs came and informed her, and the queen was seized by great fear. And she sent garments to clothe Mordecai so that he would remove his sackcloth from him, but he did not accept
them.
5
Then Esther summoned Hathach from the king’s eunuchs, whom the king had appointed to attend her, and ordered him
to go
to Mordecai to learn what this
mourning was
and why it
was happening.
6
So Hathach went out to Mordecai in the city square, in front of the king’s gate.
7
Mordecai told him everything that had happened to him, and the exact amount of money that Haman had promised to pay to the king’s treasuries for the elimination of the Jews.
8
He also gave him a copy of the text of the edict which had been issued in Susa for their annihilation, so that he might show Esther and inform her, and to order her to go in to the king to implore his favor and plead with him for her people.
9
So Hathach came back and reported Mordecai’s words to Esther.
10
Then Esther spoke to Hathach and ordered him
to reply
to Mordecai:

Chapter 4
4
So Esther's maids and her chamberlains came and told it her. Then was the queen exceedingly grieved; and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai, and to take away his sackcloth from him: but he received it not.
5
Then called Esther for Hatach, one of the king's chamberlains, whom he had appointed to attend upon her, and gave him a commandment to Mordecai, to know what it was, and why it was.
6
So Hatach went forth to Mordecai unto the street of the city, which was before the king's gate.
7
And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them.
8
Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to shew it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people.
9
And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.
10
Again Esther spake unto Hatach, and gave him commandment unto Mordecai;

Esther’s female servants and her eunuchs came and reported the news to her, and the queen was overcome with fear. She sent clothes for Mordecai to wear so that he would take off his sackcloth, but he did not accept them.
5
Esther summoned Hathach, one of the king’s eunuchs who attended her, and dispatched him to Mordecai to learn what he was doing and why.
6
So Hathach went out to Mordecai in the city square in front of the King’s Gate.
7
Mordecai told him everything that had happened as well as the exact amount of money Haman had promised to pay the royal treasury for the slaughter of the Jews.
8
Mordecai also gave him a copy of the written decree issued in Susa ordering their destruction, so that Hathach might show it to Esther, explain it to her, and command her to approach the king, implore his favor, and plead with him personally for her people.
9
Hathach came and repeated Mordecai’s response to Esther.
10
Esther spoke to Hathach and commanded him to tell Mordecai,

Chapter 4
4
When Queen Esther’s maids and eunuchs came and told her about Mordecai, she was deeply distressed. She sent clothing to him to replace the burlap, but he refused it.
5
Then Esther sent for Hathach, one of the king’s eunuchs who had been appointed as her attendant. She ordered him to go to Mordecai and find out what was troubling him and why he was in mourning.
6
So Hathach went out to Mordecai in the square in front of the palace gate.
7
Mordecai told him the whole story, including the exact amount of money Haman had promised to pay into the royal treasury for the destruction of the Jews.
8
Mordecai gave Hathach a copy of the decree issued in Susa that called for the death of all Jews. He asked Hathach to show it to Esther and explain the situation to her. He also asked Hathach to direct her to go to the king to beg for mercy and plead for her people.
9
So Hathach returned to Esther with Mordecai’s message.
10
Then Esther told Hathach to go back and relay this message to Mordecai:
