Then the king said to the wise men who understood the times—for it was the custom of the king

chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him.

Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so

the king's manner toward all that knew law and judgment:

The king consulted the wise men who understood the times, for it was his normal procedure to confer with experts in law and justice.

But when they conveyed the king’s order to Queen Vashti, she refused to come. This made the king furious, and he burned with anger.

He immediately consulted with his wise advisers, who knew all the Persian laws and customs, for he always asked their advice.
