Deuteronomy 8:14-17
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 8
14
then your heart will become proud and you will forget the
Lord
your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery;
15
He who led you through the great and terrible wilderness,
with its
fiery serpents and scorpions, and
its
thirsty ground where there was no water; He who brought water for you out of the rock of flint.
16
In the wilderness
it was
He who fed you manna which your fathers did not know, in order to humble you and in order to put you to the test, to do good for you in the end.
17
Otherwise, you may say in your heart, ‘My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.’
King James Version
Chapter 8
14
Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the
Lord
thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
15
Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;
16
Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;
17
And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 8
14
be careful that your heart doesn’t become proud and you forget the
Lord
your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.
15
He led you through the great and terrible wilderness with its poisonous snakes and scorpions, a thirsty land where there was no water. He brought water out of the flint rock for you.
16
He fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers had not known, in order to humble and test you, so that in the end he might cause you to prosper.
17
You may say to yourself, ‘My power and my own ability have gained this wealth for me,’
New Living Translation
Chapter 8
14
Do not become proud at that time and forget the
Lord
your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt.
15
Do not forget that he led you through the great and terrifying wilderness with its poisonous snakes and scorpions, where it was so hot and dry. He gave you water from the rock!
16
He fed you with manna in the wilderness, a food unknown to your ancestors. He did this to humble you and test you for your own good.
17
He did all this so you would never say to yourself, ‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’
English Standard Version
Chapter 8

your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery,
15

17
Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’

Chapter 8
14
then your heart will become proud and you will forget the
Lord
your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
15
He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock.
16
He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.
17
You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me."
New King James Version
Chapter 8
