Deuteronomy 2:12-18
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 2
12The Horites previously lived in Seir, but the sons of Esau dispossessed them and destroyed them from before them, and settled in their place; just as Israel did to the land of their possession which the Lord gave them.) 13‘Now arise and cross over the Wadi Zered yourselves.’ So we crossed over the Wadi Zered. 14Now the time that it took for us to come from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed over the Wadi Zered was thirty-eight years, until all the generation of the men of war perished from within the camp, just as the Lord had sworn to them. 15Indeed, the hand of the Lord was against them, to destroy them from within the camp until they all perished.King James Version
Chapter 2
12The Horims also dwelt in Seir beforetime; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them. 13Now rise up, said I, and get you over the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered. 14And the space in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD sware unto them. 15For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed. 16So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people, 17That the LORD spake unto me, saying, 18Thou art to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day:Christian Standard Bible
13"The Lord said, 'Now get up and cross the Zered Valley.' So we crossed the Zered Valley.
14The time we spent traveling from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed the Zered Valley was thirty-eight years until the entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the Lord had sworn to them.
15Indeed, the Lord's hand was against them, to eliminate them from the camp until they had all perished.
New Living Translation
14Thirty-eight years passed from the time we first left Kadesh-barnea until we finally crossed the Zered Brook! By then, all the men old enough to fight in battle had died in the wilderness, as the Lord had vowed would happen.
15The Lord struck them down until they had all been eliminated from the community.
