Deuteronomy 24:6-7
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 24
6
No one shall seize a handmill or an upper millstone as a pledge
for a loan,
since he would be seizing
the debtor’s
means of life as a pledge.
7
If someone is caught kidnapping any of his countrymen of the sons of Israel, and he treats him as merchandise and sells him, then that thief shall die; so you shall eliminate the evil from among you.
King James Version
Chapter 24
6
No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge: for he taketh a man's life to pledge.
7
If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put evil away from among you.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 24
6
"Do not take a pair of grindstones or even the upper millstone as security for a debt, because that is like taking a life as security.
7
"If a man is discovered kidnapping one of his Israelite brothers, whether he treats him as a slave or sells him, the kidnapper must die. You must purge the evil from you.
New Living Translation
Chapter 24
6
It is wrong to take a set of millstones, or even just the upper millstone, as security for a loan, for the owner uses it to make a living.
7
If anyone kidnaps a fellow Israelite and treats him as a slave or sells him, the kidnapper must die. In this way, you will purge the evil from among you.
English Standard Version
Chapter 24
6
"No one shall take a mill or an upper millstone in pledge, for that would be taking a life in pledge.
7
"If a man is found stealing one of his brothers of the people of Israel, and if he treats him as a slave or sells him, then that thief shall die. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.
New International Version
Chapter 24
6
Do not take a pair of millstones—not even the upper one—as security for a debt, because that would be taking a person’s livelihood as security.
7
If someone is caught kidnapping a fellow Israelite and treating or selling them as a slave, the kidnapper must die. You must purge the evil from among you.
New King James Version
Chapter 24
6
“No man shall take the lower or the upper millstone in pledge, for he takes
one’s
living in pledge.
7
“If a man is found kidnapping any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and mistreats him or sells him, then that kidnapper shall die; and you shall put away the evil from among you.
