Deuteronomy 24:1-4
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 24
1
When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens, if she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, that he writes her a certificate of divorce, puts
it
in her hand, and sends her away from his house,
2
and she leaves his house and goes and becomes another man’s
wife,
3
and the latter husband turns against her, writes her a certificate of divorce and puts
it
in her hand, and sends her away from his house, or if the latter husband who took her to be his wife dies,
4
then
her former husband who sent her away is not allowed to take her again to be his wife, after she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before the
Lord
, and you shall not bring sin on the land which the
Lord
your God is giving you as an inheritance.
King James Version
Chapter 24
1
When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
2
And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife.
3
And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife;
4
Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the
Lord
: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the
Lord
thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 24
1
"If a man marries a woman, but she becomes displeasing to him because he finds something indecent about her, he may write her a divorce certificate, hand it to her, and send her away from his house.
2
If after leaving his house she goes and becomes another man’s wife,
3
and the second man hates her, writes her a divorce certificate, hands it to her, and sends her away from his house or if he dies,
4
the first husband who sent her away may not marry her again after she has been defiled, because that would be detestable to the
Lord
. You must not bring guilt on the land the
Lord
your God is giving you as an inheritance.
New Living Translation
Chapter 24
1
Suppose a man marries a woman but she does not please him. Having discovered something wrong with her, he writes a document of divorce, hands it to her, and sends her away from his house.
2
When she leaves his house, she is free to marry another man.
3
But if the second husband also turns against her, writes a document of divorce, hands it to her, and sends her away, or if he dies,
4
the first husband may not marry her again, for she has been defiled. That would be detestable to the
Lord
. You must not bring guilt upon the land the
Lord
your God is giving you as a special possession.

3
