Deuteronomy 23:14-16
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 23
14
Since the
Lord
your God walks in the midst of your camp to save you and to defeat your enemies before you, your camp must be holy; so He must not see anything indecent among you or He will turn away from you.
15
You shall not hand over to his master a slave who has escaped from his master to you.
16
He shall live with you in your midst, in the place that he chooses in one of your towns where it pleases him; you shall not mistreat him.
King James Version
Chapter 23
14
For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee.
15
Thou shalt not deliver unto his master the servant which is escaped from his master unto thee:
16
He shall dwell with thee,
even
among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt not oppress him.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 23
14
For the Lord your God walks throughout your camp to protect you and deliver your enemies to you; so your encampments must be holy. He must not see anything indecent among you or he will turn away from you.
15
"Do not return a slave to his master when he has escaped from his master to you.
16
Let him live among you wherever he wants within your city gates. Do not mistreat him.
New Living Translation
Chapter 23
14
The camp must be holy, for the
Lord
your God moves around in your camp to protect you and to defeat your enemies. He must not see any shameful thing among you, or he will turn away from you.
15
If slaves should escape from their masters and take refuge with you, you must not hand them over to their masters.
16
Let them live among you in any town they choose, and do not oppress them.
English Standard Version
Chapter 23
14
Because the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and to give up your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy, so that he may not see anything indecent among you and turn away from you.
15
“You shall not give up to his master a slave who has escaped from his master to you.
16
He shall dwell with you, in your midst, in the place that he shall choose within one of your towns, wherever it suits him. You shall not wrong him.

If a slave has taken refuge with you, do not hand them over to their master.
16
Let them live among you wherever they like and in whatever town they choose. Do not oppress them.
