And all the elders of that city which is nearest to the person killed shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley;
7
and they shall respond and say, ‘Our hands did not shed this blood, nor did our eyes see
who did.

And all the elders of that city,
that are
next unto the slain
man
, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley:

And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen

All the elders of the city nearest to the victim will wash their hands by the stream over the young cow whose neck has been broken.

They will declare, 'Our hands did not shed this blood; our eyes did not see it.

The elders of the town must wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken.

Then they must say, ‘Our hands did not shed this person’s blood, nor did we see it happen.
