Deuteronomy 12:2-9
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 12
2
You shall utterly destroy all the places where the nations whom you are going to dispossess serve their gods, on the high mountains, on the hills, and under every leafy tree.
3
And you shall tear down their altars and smash their memorial stones to pieces, and burn their Asherim in the fire, and cut to pieces the carved images of their gods; and you shall eliminate their name from that place.
4
You shall not act this way toward the
Lord
your God.
5
But you shall seek
the
Lord
at the place which the
Lord
your God will choose from all your tribes, to establish His name there for His dwelling, and you shall come there.
6
You shall bring there your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the contribution of your hand, your vowed offerings, your voluntary offerings, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock.
7
There you and your households shall eat before the
Lord
your God, and rejoice in all your undertakings in which the
Lord
your God has blessed you.
8
You shall not do at all what we are doing here today, everyone
doing
whatever is right in his
own
eyes;
9
for you have not as yet come to the resting place and the inheritance which the
Lord
your God is giving you.
King James Version
Chapter 12
2
Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree:
3
And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place.
4
Ye shall not do so unto the
Lord
your God.
5
But unto the place which the
Lord
your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come:
6
And thither ye shall bring your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and heave offerings of your hand, and your vows, and your freewill offerings, and the firstlings of your herds and of your flocks:
7
And there ye shall eat before the
Lord
your God, and ye shall rejoice in all that ye put your hand unto, ye and your households, wherein the
Lord
thy God hath blessed thee.
8
Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes.
9
For ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which the
Lord
your God giveth you.
Christian Standard Bible
Chapter 12
2
Destroy completely all the places where the nations that you are driving out worship their gods —on the high mountains, on the hills, and under every green tree.
3
Tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, burn their Asherah poles, cut down the carved images of their gods, and wipe out their names from every place.
4
Don’t worship the
Lord
your God this way.
5
Instead, turn to the place the
Lord
your God chooses from all your tribes to put his name for his dwelling and go there.
6
You are to bring there your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tenths and personal contributions, your vow offerings and freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks.
7
You will eat there in the presence of the
Lord
your God and rejoice with your household in everything you do, because the
Lord
your God has blessed you.
8
"You are not to do as we are doing here today; everyone is doing whatever seems right in his own sight.
9
Indeed, you have not yet come into the resting place and the inheritance the
Lord
your God is giving you.
New Living Translation
Chapter 12
2
When you drive out the nations that live there, you must destroy all the places where they worship their gods — high on the mountains, up on the hills, and under every green tree.
3
Break down their altars and smash their sacred pillars. Burn their Asherah poles and cut down their carved idols. Completely erase the names of their gods!
4
Do not worship the
Lord
your God in the way these pagan peoples worship their gods.
5
Rather, you must seek the
Lord
your God at the place of worship he himself will choose from among all the tribes — the place where his name will be honored.
6
There you will bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, your sacred offerings, your offerings to fulfill a vow, your voluntary offerings, and your offerings of the firstborn animals of your herds and flocks.
7
There you and your families will feast in the presence of the
Lord
your God, and you will rejoice in all you have accomplished because the
Lord
your God has blessed you.
8
Your pattern of worship will change. Today all of you are doing as you please,
9
because you have not yet arrived at the place of rest, the land the
Lord
your God is giving you as your special possession.
English Standard Version
Chapter 12
2
You shall surely destroy all the places where the nations whom you shall dispossess served their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree.
3
You shall tear down their altars and dash in pieces their pillars and burn their Asherim with fire. You shall chop down the carved images of their gods and destroy their name out of that place.
4
You shall not worship the
Lord
your God in that way.
5
But you shall seek the place that the
Lord
your God will choose out of all your tribes to put his name and make his habitation there. There you shall go,
6
and there you shall bring your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the contribution that you present, your vow offerings, your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock.
7
And there you shall eat before the
Lord
your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your households, in all that you undertake, in which the
Lord
your God has blessed you.
8
"You shall not do according to all that we are doing here today, everyone doing whatever is right in his own eyes,
9
for you have not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance that the
Lord
your God is giving you.
New International Version
Chapter 12
2
Destroy completely all the places on the high mountains, on the hills and under every spreading tree, where the nations you are dispossessing worship their gods.
3
Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and burn their Asherah poles in the fire; cut down the idols of their gods and wipe out their names from those places.
4
You must not worship the
Lord
your God in their way.
5
But you are to seek the place the
Lord
your God will choose from among all your tribes to put his Name there for his dwelling. To that place you must go;
6
there bring your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts, what you have vowed to give and your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks.
7
There, in the presence of the
Lord
your God, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice in everything you have put your hand to, because the
Lord
your God has blessed you.
8
You are not to do as we do here today, everyone doing as they see fit,
9
since you have not yet reached the resting place and the inheritance the
Lord
your God is giving you.
New King James Version

You shall utterly destroy all the places where the nations which you shall dispossess served their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree.
