Acts 8:17-26
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 8
17
Then they
began
laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the Holy Spirit.
18
Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money,
19
saying, 'Give this authority to me as well, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.'
20
But Peter said to him, 'May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could acquire the gift of God with money!
21
You have no part or share in this matter, for your heart is not right before God.
22
Therefore, repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord
that,
if possible, the intention of your heart will be forgiven you.
23
For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of unrighteousness.'
24
But Simon answered and said, 'Pray to the Lord for me yourselves, so that nothing of what you have said may come upon me.'
25
So, when they had solemnly testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they started back to Jerusalem, and were preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.
26
But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, 'Get ready and go south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza.' ( This is a desert
road.)
King James Version
Chapter 8
17
Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
18
And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
19
Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
20
But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
21
Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
22
Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
23
For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.
24
Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.
25
And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.
26
And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

Chapter 8
17
Then Peter and John laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
18
When Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money,
19
saying, "Give me this power also so that anyone I lay hands on may receive the Holy Spirit."
20
But Peter told him, "May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!
21
You have no part or share in this matter, because your heart is not right before God.
22
Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, your heart’s intent may be forgiven.
23
For I see you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by wickedness."
24
"Pray to the Lord for me," Simon replied, "so that nothing you have said may happen to me."
25
So, after they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they traveled back to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.
26
An angel of the Lord spoke to Philip: "Get up and go south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." (This is the desert road. )
New Living Translation
Chapter 8
17
Then Peter and John laid their hands upon these believers, and they received the Holy Spirit.
18
When Simon saw that the Spirit was given when the apostles laid their hands on people, he offered them money to buy this power.
19
Let me have this power, too,' he exclaimed, 'so that when I lay my hands on people, they will receive the Holy Spirit!'
20
But Peter replied, 'May your money be destroyed with you for thinking God’s gift can be bought!
21
You can have no part in this, for your heart is not right with God.
22
Repent of your wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive your evil thoughts,
23
for I can see that you are full of bitter jealousy and are held captive by sin.'
24
Pray to the Lord for me,' Simon exclaimed, 'that these terrible things you’ve said won’t happen to me!'
25
After testifying and preaching the word of the Lord in Samaria, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem. And they stopped in many Samaritan villages along the way to preach the Good News.
26
As for Philip, an angel of the Lord said to him, 'Go south down the desert road that runs from Jerusalem to Gaza.'

Chapter 8
17
Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
18
When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money
19
and said, "Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit."
20
Peter answered: "May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!
21
You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God.
22
Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart.
23
For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin."
24
Then Simon answered, "Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me."
25
After they had further proclaimed the word of the Lord and testified about Jesus, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages.
26
Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza."
