Chapter 5
24Now when the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them as to what would come of this. 25But someone came and reported to them, 'The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple area and teaching the people!' 26Then the captain went along with the officers and proceeded to bring them back without violence (for they were afraid of the people, that they might be stoned).
27When they had brought them, they had them stand before the Council. The high priest interrogated them,
28saying, 'We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this Man’s blood upon us.'
29But Peter and the apostles answered, 'We must obey God rather than men.
30The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you put to death by hanging Him on a cross.
31He is the one whom God exalted to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.'
33But when they heard this, they became infuriated and nearly decided to execute them.
34But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in the Council and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time.
35And he said to them, 'Men of Israel, be careful as to what you are about to do with these men.

24Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow. 25Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
26Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.
27And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
28Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
29Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
30The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
33When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.
34Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;
35And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

26Then the commander went with the servants and brought them in without force, because they were afraid the people might stone them.
27After they brought them in, they had them stand before the Sanhedrin, and the high priest asked,
28"Didn't we strictly order you not to teach in this name? Look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man's blood."
29Peter and the apostles replied, "We must obey God rather than people.
30The God of our ancestors raised up Jesus, whom you had murdered by hanging him on a tree.
31God exalted this man to his right hand as ruler and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.
32We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him."
33When they heard this, they were enraged and wanted to kill them.
34But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law who was respected by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered the men to be taken outside for a little while.
35He said to them, "Men of Israel, be careful about what you're about to do to these men.

24When the captain of the Temple guard and the leading priests heard this, they were perplexed, wondering where it would all end. 25Then someone arrived with startling news: 'The men you put in jail are standing in the Temple, teaching the people!'
26The captain went with his Temple guards and arrested the apostles, but without violence, for they were afraid the people would stone them.
27Then they brought the apostles before the high council, where the high priest confronted them.
28We gave you strict orders never again to teach in this man’s name!' he said. 'Instead, you have filled all Jerusalem with your teaching about him, and you want to make us responsible for his death!'
29But Peter and the apostles replied, 'We must obey God rather than any human authority.
30The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead after you killed him by hanging him on a cross.
31Then God put him in the place of honor at his right hand as Prince and Savior. He did this so the people of Israel would repent of their sins and be forgiven.
32We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey him.'
33When they heard this, the high council was furious and decided to kill them.
34But one member, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, who was an expert in religious law and respected by all the people, stood up and ordered that the men be sent outside the council chamber for a while.
35Then he said to his colleagues, 'Men of Israel, take care what you are planning to do to these men!
