Acts 5:20-24
New American Standard Bible
21Upon hearing this, they entered into the temple area about daybreak and began to teach. Now when the high priest and his associates came, they called the Council together, that is, all the Senate of the sons of Israel, and sent orders to the prison for them to be brought.
22But the officers who came did not find them in the prison; and they returned and reported,
23saying, 'We found the prison locked quite securely and the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.'
24Now when the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them as to what would come of this.
King James Version
Chapter 5
20Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life. 21And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought. 22But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told, 23Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within. 24Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.Christian Standard Bible
21Hearing this, they entered the temple at daybreak and began to teach. When the high priest and those who were with him arrived, they convened the Sanhedrin--the full council of the Israelites--and sent orders to the jail to have them brought.
22But when the servants got there, they did not find them in the jail; so they returned and reported,
23"We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing in front of the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside."
24As the captain of the temple police and the chief priests heard these things, they were baffled about them, wondering what would come of this.
New Living Translation
21So at daybreak the apostles entered the Temple, as they were told, and immediately began teaching. When the high priest and his officials arrived, they convened the high council — the full assembly of the elders of Israel. Then they sent for the apostles to be brought from the jail for trial.
22But when the Temple guards went to the jail, the men were gone. So they returned to the council and reported,
23The jail was securely locked, with the guards standing outside, but when we opened the gates, no one was there!'

Chapter 5
20Go, stand in the temple courts,' he said, 'and tell the people all about this new life.'
21At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people. When the high priest and his associates arrived, they called together the Sanhedrin--the full assembly of the elders of Israel--and sent to the jail for the apostles.
22But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there. So they went back and reported,
23We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.'
24On hearing this report, the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests were at a loss, wondering what this might lead to.
New King James Version
22But when the officers came and did not find them in the prison, they returned and reported,
23saying, “Indeed we found the prison shut securely, and the guards standing outside before the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside!”
24Now when the high priest, the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these things, they wondered what the outcome would be.
