them,
we found no one inside.'
24
Now when the captain of the temple
guard
and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them as to what would come of this.
King James Version
Chapter 5

But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told,
23
Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.
24
Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.
Christian Standard Bible

23
"We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing in front of the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside."
24
As the captain of the temple police and the chief priests heard these things, they were baffled about them, wondering what would come of this.
New Living Translation

23
The jail was securely locked, with the guards standing outside, but when we opened the gates, no one was there!'
