Acts 17:4-10
New American Standard Bible
Chapter 17
4
And some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, along with a large number of the God-fearing Greeks and a significant number of the leading women.
5
But the Jews, becoming jealous and taking along some wicked men from the marketplace, formed a mob and set the city in an uproar; and they attacked the house of Jason and were seeking to bring them out to the people.
6
When they did not find them, they
began
dragging Jason and some brothers before the city authorities, shouting, 'These men who have upset the world have come here also;
7
and Jason has welcomed them, and they all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.'
8
They stirred up the crowd and the city authorities who heard these things.
9
And when they had received a pledge from Jason and the others, they released them.
10
The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews.
King James Version
Chapter 17
4
And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
5
But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.
6
And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;
7
Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.
8
And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.
9
And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.
10
And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

Chapter 17
4
Some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, including a large number of God-fearing Greeks, as well as a number of the leading women.
5
But the Jews became jealous, and they brought together some wicked men from the marketplace, formed a mob, and started a riot in the city. Attacking Jason’s house, they searched for them to bring them out to the public assembly.
6
When they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city officials, shouting, "These men who have turned the world upside down have come here too,
7
and Jason has welcomed them. They are all acting contrary to Caesar’s decrees, saying that there is another king—Jesus."
8
The crowd and city officials who heard these things were upset.
9
After taking a security bond from Jason and the others, they released them.
10
As soon as it was night, the brothers and sisters sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. Upon arrival, they went into the synagogue of the Jews.
New Living Translation
Chapter 17
4
Some of the Jews who listened were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, along with many God-fearing Greek men and quite a few prominent women.
5
But some of the Jews were jealous, so they gathered some troublemakers from the marketplace to form a mob and start a riot. They attacked the home of Jason, searching for Paul and Silas so they could drag them out to the crowd.
6
Not finding them there, they dragged out Jason and some of the other believers instead and took them before the city council. 'Paul and Silas have caused trouble all over the world,' they shouted, 'and now they are here disturbing our city, too.
7
And Jason has welcomed them into his home. They are all guilty of treason against Caesar, for they profess allegiance to another king, named Jesus.'
8
The people of the city, as well as the city council, were thrown into turmoil by these reports.
9
So the officials forced Jason and the other believers to post bond, and then they released them.
10
That very night the believers sent Paul and Silas to Berea. When they arrived there, they went to the Jewish synagogue.
English Standard Version
Chapter 17
4
And some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a great many of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women.
5
But the Jews were jealous, and taking some wicked men of the rabble, they formed a mob, set the city in an uproar, and attacked the house of Jason, seeking to bring them out to the crowd.
6
And when they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city authorities, shouting, "These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also,
7
and Jason has received them, and they are all acting against the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus."
8
And the people and the city authorities were disturbed when they heard these things.
9
And when they had taken money as security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.
10
The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue.

Chapter 17
4
Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and quite a few prominent women.
5
But other Jews were jealous; so they rounded up some bad characters from the marketplace, formed a mob and started a riot in the city. They rushed to Jason’s house in search of Paul and Silas in order to bring them out to the crowd.
6
But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other believers before the city officials, shouting: "These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here,
7
and Jason has welcomed them into his house. They are all defying Caesar’s decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus."
8
When they heard this, the crowd and the city officials were thrown into turmoil.
9
Then they made Jason and the others post bond and let them go.
10
As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue.
